$75K In Collector Coins Stolen From Home: Northbrook Police Blotter

The bag of silver coins from Australia and the U.S. went missing from the property that was delivered by a moving company.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

  • Abdy Z. Rustambekov, of Mount Prospect, is accused of having a suspended registration, no valid driver's license, and was arrested at 2:24 a.m. May 30, at Landwehr and Willow roads. A court date of July 17 was assigned.
  • Kubanychbek Amanbekov, of Palatine, is accused of having a suspended registration, no valid driver's license, and was arrested at 2:35 p.m. May 30, at Willow and Waukegan roads. A court date of June 25 was assigned.
  • Pablo Gamarra Silva, of Chicago, is accused of having no valid driver's license, no valid registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 2:06 a.m. June 2, at Shermer and Waukegan roads. A court date of June 25 was assigned.
  • Alexsandr Podkorytov, of Mundelein, is accused of having no valid driver's license, suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 7:34 p.m. June 3, at Dundee Road and Oakleaf Terrace. A court date of July 17 was assigned.

  • Oscar A Vento Yupanqui, of Waukegan, is accused of driving under the influence, illegal transportation of open alcohol, DUI alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, driving without lights when required, improper parking on roadway, and was arrested at 9:02 p.m. May 31, at Waukegan Road and Maple Avenue. Police reportedly found several empty and full bottles of beer in the car. A court date of July 10 was assigned.
  • Ricardo Hughes, Jr., of Wheeling, is accused of DUI, speeding (58 mph in a 40 mph zone), improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 3:23 a.m. June 1, at Dundee and Landwehr roads. A court date of June 5 was assigned.
  • David R. Johnson, of Skokie, is accused of DUI, speeding (60 mph in a 35 mph), disobeying no turn on a red signal, improper lane usage, and was arrested at 10:18 p.m. June 2, at Dundee Road and Skokie Boulevard. A court date of June 25 was assigned.

SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Gregory L. Alagna, of Northbrook, is accused of driving while license suspended, having an expired registration, and was arrested at 9:58 p.m. June 2, at Shermer Road and Raymond Drive. A court date of June 25 was assigned.

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

Pierre A. Nero, of Calumet City, is accused of having a suspended registration, a defective headlight, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 12:33 a.m. June 3, at Dundee and Landwehr roads. A court date of June 28 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

Police responded to a liquor store in the 800 block of Sanders Road at 2:25 a.m. May 30, for an activated burglar alarm. Police found the front display window was smashed. Various bottles of alcohol were on the floor and broken. After the owner arrived, he showed the officers the video surveillance footage. It recorded two people forcing entry into the store and stealing various bottles of alcohol. They fled in an unknown vehicle.

THEFT

  • Residents in the 1600 block of Shermer Road reported at 3:52 p.m. May 31, they had recently moved into their home and noticed a bag of silver collector coins was missing from the property that was delivered by a moving company. The various Australian and American silver coins were valued at $75,000.
  • A resident in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road called police at 3:46 p.m. June 3, to report he and his wife purchased a Prada purse over the internet for over $2,600. The day it was supposed to arrive via a shipping company, it never showed. The shipping company claimed they delivered a package to the apartment building's office where the complainant lived.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

The owner of a strip mall in the 1100 block of Church Street reported at 6:21 p.m. May 31, they had received a call from one of the store's staff saying they had heard someone on the roof. Since the owner never scheduled any maintenance, they accessed the roof to see why someone was there. The owner found one of the skylights to a business had been shattered. The offender had already left the area.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

  • Residents in the 1900 block of Brentwood Road reported at 5:36 p.m. June 1, someone had gained access to their home through the garage while they were at work. The person stole over $5,000 in cash, as well as several high-end handbags, and jewelry.
  • Residents in the 1400 block of Sycamore Lane called police at 5:20 p.m. June 5, to report someone had gained access to their house, possibly through an unlocked door. Their safe was opened and $8,000 in foreign coins, passports, and legal documents were taken.

STOLEN LICENSE PLATE

A resident in the 3900 block of Raintree Lane reported at 7:12 p.m. June 2, they had parked their 2018 black Jaguar in the garage, but with the garage door open. The next day, the complainant noticed the rear license plate missing from the vehicle.

BURGLARY TO AUTO

A resident in the 1400 block of Shermer Road reported at 9:38 p.m. June 3, someone had stolen her purse out of her unlocked 2015 blue Honda, while it was parked overnight in her parking lot. The Coach purse contained $100, her cell phone, and her prescription medicine.

BANK FRAUD SCAM

An Illinois Road resident reported at 6:42 p.m. June 4, she had received a phone call from someone claiming to be with her banking institution. He said there was an error, and she was to be wired an $8,000 refund. The subject stayed with her on the phone while instructing the complainant how to complete the transfer. The complainant was actually scammed into wiring her own $8,000to another banking account.

RETAIL THEFT

The manger of a sporting goods store in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 8:02 p.m. June 5, someone was seen on the surveillance camera grabbing a sports style duffle bag valued at $90.and placing several other products for sale inside. The person hid the items in the rear of the store and left. A second person entered the store about twenty minutes later and grabbed the items. That person was seen walking out of the store without paying for the items.
