Car Stolen From Northbrook Eludes Police At High Speeds: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

VANDALISM
A resident in the 3100 block of Toulon Drive reported around 10:15 a.m. on Jan. 18 that someone had smeared an unidentified substance on their front door.

CAR BURGLARIES
Someone rummaged through two cars in the 900 block of Butternut Lane prior to 4:15 a.m. on Jan. 19. During the same night, multiple cars were rummaged through in the 1100 block of Butternut Lane, a backpack was stolen from a car in the 1000 block of Cedar Lane, a garage door opener was taken in the 1000 block of Briarwood Lane and, in the 2100 block of Illinois Road, a burglar stole a laptop computer from inside a parked car. There was no sign of forced entry reported to any of the burglarized vehicles, and police said at least two were unlocked.

STOLEN CAR
At 4:10 a.m. on Jan. 19, an officer who noticed two apparently speeding cars at Dundee Road and the Edens Expressway was able to record the license plate of one of them before they escaped. The officer later learned it had been stolen from the 1000 block of Blackthorn Lane.

THEFT OF UNATTENDED ITEM
Someone stole a cellphone from the Whole Foods, 840 Willow Road, between 10 and 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 13 after it had been left on a kiosk, police were told.

EMAIL SCAM
A Midway Road resident reported on Jan. 20 that they had been scammed by an email supposedly from their boss asking them to buy $400 worth of gift cards and send the card information. After getting another email asking for another five cards, the resident checked the email again and learned that it was a scam.

COUNTERFEIT CASH
Staff at the Potbelly's, 816 Skokie Blvd., reported around 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 that two customers had made purchases using counterfeit $100 bills. Both suspects were described only as male.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE
Someone purchased a vehicle using false information from the 1800 block of Holste Road prior to noon on Jan. 20, police were told.

CHECK FRAUD
A resident in the 100 block of Revere Drive reported that they discovered several checks had gone missing from a checkbook after their bank notified them one of the checks had been cashed on Jan. 16 without permission.

THEFT
Two laptop computers were reported having gone missing from an office area in the 600 block of Dundee Road between Aug. 1, 2019, and Jan. 21, 2020.

VEHICULAR TRESPASSING
A resident in the 600 block of Gregg Road reported on the afternoon of Jan. 23 that someone had gotten into their vehicle but did not appear to have taken anything.

SHOPLIFTERS

  • Staff at the Northbrook Court Apple Store reported around noon on Jan. 20 someone came into the store asking to buy four iPhone 11s. When an employee brought out two of them and set them down on a display table, the thief grabbed both of them and fled. He then got into a car and left the area.
  • Staff at the Bloomingdale's, 145 Skokie Blvd., reported around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 20 that four shoplifters stole several coats and purses of unspecified value after cutting the attached security cables. Three of the thieves were described as female. Police were told the group got into a car in the lot and fled.

ARRESTS

A 73-year-old Skokie man was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 near Shermer and Meadow roads on an active bond forfeiture warrant issued by Will County authorities. During the course of an investigation, a Northbrook officer ran Williams' name and learned of the warrant.

A 46-year-old Highland Park man was arrested around 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 near Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard and charged with driving with a revoked license and driving without a valid license after an officer on patrol noticed him commit several traffic violations. The officer also issued the man issued citations for improper parking, improper backing and no insurance.

A 20-year-old Arlington Heights man was arrested around 11 p.m. on Jan. 21 and charged with driving with a suspended license after an officer reported pulling him over for an equipment violation near Lexington Lane and Willow Road. He was also issued an expired registration citation.
