Cars With Key Fobs Left Inside Stolen At Residences: Blotter

A number of cars were stolen around the village with either a key fob left inside or left unlocked: Northbrook Police Blotter.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

WARRANT SERVICE

Youshia Benyamin, 67, of the 6400 block of N California, Chicago, is accused of having an outstanding warrant from the Will County Sheriff's Office, and was arrested after committing a traffic violation at 6:49 p.m. Nov. 7 at Dundee and Sanders roads. His bond was set at $40,000.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL

  • Jeffrey W. March, 54, of the 200 block of Prairie Avenue, Highwood, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, transportation of alcohol, improper lane usage, driving while license suspended, and was arrested at 11:51 p.m. Nov. 7 at Cherry and Crestwood. His bond was set at $2,500, and he was assigned a court date of Jan. 5, 2020 in Skokie.
  • Maria Guadalupe Gomes Murillow, 49, of the 100 block of Midlothian Road, Mundelein, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transport of alcohol, improper lane usage, and was arrested at 10:51 p.m. Nov. 8 at Dundee and Winchester roads. She was released on a $3,000 bond, and assigned a court date of Jan. 5, 2021 in Skokie.

  • A resident in the 1000 block of Shermer Road reported at 2:21 p.m. Nov. 5 that someone damaged their front door and entered the residence. Various items were reported taken.
  • A resident in the 2400 block of Walters Avenue called police at 7:51 p.m. Nov. 11 to report that when they returned to their residence they found that someone entered the residence and removed various items.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Cherry Lane resident called police at 11:25 a.m. Nov. 7 to report that an unknown person used their information to apply for unemployment benefits from the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
  • A Quail Lane resident reported at 6:45 p.m. Nov. 9 that they were notified that a claim was filed with the Illinois Department of Employment Security using their information. The complainant did not file for the benefits.
  • A Bordeaux Drive resident called police at 8:50 p.m. Nov. 9 to report that they were notified that a claim was filed with the Illinois Department of Employment Security using their information. The complainant did not file for the benefits.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

A resident in the 2200 block of Oak Avenue reported at 10:23 p.m. Nov. 7 that they heard a noise at their front door. The complainant stated that when they went to answer the door, a male was observed entering an SUV then leaving the area.

STOLEN VEHICLE

  • A resident in the 2100 block of Illinois Road reported at 8:26 a.m. Nov. 8 that during the overnight hours, their vehicle which had the key fob inside was taken by someone from their driveway without permission. The vehicle was later located in Chicago.
  • A resident in the 2500 block of Maple Avenue called police at 11:08 p.m. Nov. 8 to report that during the overnight hours, their vehicle which had a key fob inside was taken by someone from their driveway without permission.
  • A resident in the 4200 block of Devonshire Court reported at 7:18 a.m. Nov. 9 that during the night, someone took their unlocked vehicle which also had the fob inside, without permission.
  • A resident in the 1900 block of Alexandria Court called police at 3:47 a.m. Nov. 11 to report that during the overnight hours their vehicle was taken without permission. The complainant checked their security cameras, and a male, with possible dreadlocks and wearing dark clothing, was seen exiting a vehicle and walking up the driveway. The male is observed checking the door handles of both of the complainant’s vehicles. The first vehicle the male was not able to open, however on the second vehicle, the male was able to open a front door. The video then shows the second vehicle backing out of the driveway and driving away. Complainant stated that the key fobs were not in the vehicle. The vehicle was later located by Chicago Police.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

  • A resident in the 2300 block of Illinois Road called police at 8:34 a.m. Nov. 10 to report someone entered their vehicle and took various items. The complainant believed that the vehicle was locked, however there was no damage observed to the vehicle.
  • A person reported at 5 p.m. Nov. 10 that when they returned to their vehicle parked at Techny Prairie Park, 1700 block of Techny Road, they found the driver’s side window broken out and a purse missing from inside. The complainant stated that the purse was on the passenger side seat.

FRAUD

A Woodhead Road resident called police at 11:24 a.m. Nov. 11 to report they were in the process of purchasing a home. They stated that they received an email from someone that they believed was their agent and wire transferred requested funds to that person. The complainant found that their agent did not receive the funds and that the instructions in the email were fraudulent.

THEFT

A person working at Lurie Children's, 1100 block of Techny Road, reported at 10:08 a.m. Nov. 11 that they found that an employee had made unauthorized purchases using the company account.

COMPUTER TAMPERING

A resident of the 2400 block of The Strand called police at 11:34 a.m. Nov. 12 to report that they received an email which appeared to be from Amazon regarding a purchase. The complainant stated that no such purchase was made and the complainant called the telephone number associated with the email. Complainant was told by someone who answered the call that they needed access to the complainant’s computer to cancel the order. Complainant allowed the person access to their computer then observed files beginning to download. Complainant then shut down their computer.
