NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

THEFT

  • A resident in the 1200 block of Rudolph Drive reported at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 29 that they noticed that some of their belongings were missing from the residence. The resident believes that someone has a key since no signs of forced entry were present.
  • A resident in the 1100 block of Galway Court called police to report that three signs were taken from the yard between Nov. 1-2.
  • A Burgundy Lane resident reported at 11:03 a.m. Nov. 5 that a family member was the victim of a telephone scam. The complainant stated that the family member was instructed to purchase approximately $8,200 in gift cards. The gift card information was given to the caller after the purchases were made.

FRAUD

A Washington Drive resident called police at 3:34 p.m. Oct. 29 to report that they received an email which they believed was from their direct work supervisor asking them to purchase gift cards and that they then would be reimbursed. The complainant did purchase cards and responded to the email with the purchased card information. The complainant then followed up with their supervisor and learned that this was a scam.

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee at Dick's Sporting Goods, 200 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported at 7:10 p.m. Oct. 29 that three women, all wearing masks, were observed entering the store, then grabbing arms full of display clothing and running out of the store and into a waiting vehicle. It was reported that approximately $2,000 worth of merchandise was taken.
  • An employee at Neiman-Marcus called police at 4:35 p.m. Oct. 31 to report two females were observed removing merchandise from the store without paying for the items. The complainant stated that the two females ran out of the front entrance into a waiting vehicle.

FORGERY

A Valencia Drive resident reported at 12:29 p.m. Oct. 31 that two checks from their bank account were cashed without their permission.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE

A Skokie Boulevard resident called police at 1:05 p.m. Nov. 3 to report that they were alerted by their bank that there was suspicious activity on their account.

RESIDENTIAL RUSE BURGLARY

A resident in the 1800 block of Birch Road reported at 3:33 p.m. Nov. 3 that a male who was wearing a mask and claimed to be a representative of the village came to their door and stated that they needed to check their water for contamination due to a broken water pipe. The complainant stated that they allowed the person access to the residence and while they were in a bathroom with this male, a second male entered the residence. Complainant stated that after approximately 15 minutes, the first male abruptly left the residence. Complainant called the village regarding the incident and learned that the male was not a legitimate village employee. Nothing was believed to have been taken.

IDENTITY THEFT

Police took six reports via telephone on Nov. 4 from people regarding the use of their identities for Illinois Department of Employment Security benefits which they did not apply for.

SUSPICIOUS TELEPHONE CALL

A resident Walters Avenue resident reported at 1:55 p.m. Nov. 4 that they received a telephone call from a person claiming to represent the Social Security Administration requesting their personal information, and claiming that there were multiple arrest warrants for them. The person stated that the complainant would need to send money or officers would show up at their residence. Complainant recognized this as a scam and terminated the call.

UNWANTED PERSON

An employee at Greenhouse, 700 block of Skokie Boulevard, reported at 5:44 p.m. Nov. 4 that a male caused a disturbance after being denied entry to the facility due to not having a photo identification card. The person left in a vehicle after being denied entry.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCE

A person in the 500 block of Alice Drive called police at 10:26 a.m. Nov. 5 to report that they arrived at the residence to do work and found that the front door had been forced open and the home’s belongings were damaged.

FOUND PROPERTY

A resident in the 2200 block of Southbridge Lane reported at 1:07 p.m. Nov. 5 that they found a handgun in their front yard. The gun was recovered by the responding officer and placed into property.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A resident in the 1000 block of Shermer Road called police at 2:21 p.m. Nov. 5 to report that someone forced the front door of their residence open and rummaged through belongings within the residence. Various items were reported taken from a bedroom.
