Northbrook Woman Faces DUI Charge After Crash: Blotter

Juveniles charged over 16 cases of criminal defacement; fake fed cons resident: Northbrook police blotter for the week of June 29 to July 5

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

VANDALISM
A resident in the 1500 block of Shermer Road reported around 6:15 p.m. on June 27 that someone had spray painted the side of an office building and a parked trailer.

FRAUD
A resident in the 400 block of Dundee Road reported around 2 p.m. on June 28 that someone had contacted them by phone claiming to represent their grandson. The person claimed they were in custody and needed money. The incident remains under investigation and police declined to release further details.

SUSPICIOUS VOICEMAIL
A Charles Drive resident came into the station on the morning of June 29 to report someone purporting to be the Social Security Administration had left a voicemail on their answering machine.

FAKE FEDS
A Chartres Drive resident came into the station on the afternoon of June 29 to report someone purporting to be associated with federal law enforcement had called them and claimed someone had used their identity. The caller asked for the resident's identifying information and the resident provided it. Police recommended the resident call credit bureaus and their financial institutions.

WALLET THEFT
A shopper at the Nordstrom Rack, 199 Skokie Blvd, reported that someone stole their wallet while they were at the store between 2 and 2:30 p.m. on June 29.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

  • Someone made an unauthorized purchase of two computers from the Northbrook Court Apple Store at some point prior to 8 p.m. on July 1.
  • A Sunset Ridge Road resident reported around 4:30 p.m. on July 3 that someone had used their credit card to make an unspecified unauthorized purchase.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone burglarized a vehicle parked in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard at some point prior to 4:15 p.m. on July 2, stealing various tools from their vehicle for an unspecified loss.
  • Someone stole a wallet from an unlocked car parked in the 600 block of Skokie Boulevard sometime prior to 11:10 a.m. on July 3.

SHOPLIFTING

  • A male shoplifter stole a pair of shoes of unknown value from the Northbrook Court Neiman Marcus around 2:40 p.m. on July 3.
  • Two female shoplifters entered the Nordstrom Rack at Village Square and stole a purse and a pair of shoes around 5:15 p.m. on July 3 for a loss of about $1,000.
  • Staff at the Village Square Dick's Sporting Goods reported around 6:15 p.m. on July 3 that two female shoplifters had stolen pants and jackets with an unknown value prior.
  • Three female shoplifters stole unknown items from the Sally's Beauty at Village Square around 3:15 p.m. on July 3.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 34-year-old Highwood man was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on June 28 in the 900 block of Dundee Road and charged with driving with a revoked driver's license. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of alcohol, improper display of a front license plate, no insurance and disobeying a "no turn on red" sign.

Teresa J. Melrose, 59, of the 1500 block of Chapel Court, Northbrook, was arrested around 6:45 p.m. on July 1 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater after officers arrived at the scene of a two-car traffic crash at the intersection of Waukegan and Shermer roads. She was also issued citations for disobeying a traffic control device and failure to reduce speed. Police reported she produced a breath sample indicating a blood alcohol concentration 0.31, about three and a half times the legal limit, after trying to make a left turn on a red and crashing into a car that had a protected green.

A 23-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on July 1 and charged with driving with a suspended license after an officer noticed him texting while driving in the area of Willow and Waukegan roads. He was also issued a citation for use of an electronic device while driving.

A 32-year-old Morton Grove woman was arrested around 10:45 p.m. on July 2 and charged with driving with a suspended license after an officer noticed her using an electronic device while driving in the area of Willow and Patriot roads. She was also issued citations for no seat belt, improper lane usage, illegal use of an electronic device and no insurance.

Three Northbrook residents under the age of 18 were charged with violations of local ordinances against defacing property after detectives investigated 16 cases of vandalism involving spray paint during June, including at Glenbrook North High School and multiple Northbrook Park District properties.

A 23-year-old Waukegan woman was arrested around 1:45 p.m. on July 5 and charged with driving with a suspending license after officers arrived at the scene of a traffic crash in the area of Techny and Shermer roads and learned one of the driver's did not have a valid license. She was also ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

A 32-year-old Northbrook man was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on July 6 and charged with driving with a suspended licence and without insurance following a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Sunset Ridge Road. He was also ticketed for speeding.

Angel E. Perez, 30, of the 1300 block of Elmwood Avenue, Berwyn, was arrested around 5 a.m. on July 7 and charged with driving under the influence after an officer was dispatched to investigate a suspicious vehicle in the 800 block of Sanders Road. The officer found a disabled vehicle and determined the driver, Perez, was impaired. He did not decline sobriety testing and was not charged with having a blood alcohol content above the legal limit.
