Phallic Symbol, Swastika Carved In Pumpkin: Northbrook Police Blotter

Three bee traps for trees belonging to the business where the pumpkin was discovered were also damaged, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

  • A Deerfield resident is accused of having an expired registration, driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 10:31 a.m. Oct. 1, in the 2000 block of Waukegan Road. A court date of Oct. 24 was assigned.
  • A Fox Lake resident is accused of having a defective taillight, driving while license revoked, aggravated driving while license revoked (class 4 felony), operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 10:21 p.m. Oct. 1, at Lake Cook Road and Pine Street. A court date of Oct. 24 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

DEATH INVESTIGATION

  • The police and fire departments responded to a care facility at 12:45 p.m. Sept. 30, regarding a person who was unresponsive in the 100 block of Pointe Drive. The resident passed away of natural causes. The decedent was released to the funeral home.
  • The police and fire departments responded at 10:16 a.m. Oct. 4, to a report of a person not breathing in the 1500 block of Walters Avenue. Once the emergency workers arrived, they found the decedent inside the residence. She had passed away of natural causes. The decedent was released to the family and funeral home.

Police and fire department officials responded to a car fire at 12:21 p.m. Sept. 30, at Dundee Road and Anthony Trail. The driver was uninjured. The cause of the fire was undetermined at the time of the report.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE

The owners of a 2006 green Honda Element and a 2010 silver Toyota Prius called police on Sept. 30 to report someone stole the catalytic converters from their cars during the overnight hours at a parking lot in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

Police discovered at midnight Sept. 30, a black marker had been used to deface the bathroom wall and stalls at the Park District facility in the 1700 block of Techny Road. Staff was notified.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Cypress Lane resident called police at 2:34 p.m. Oct. 1, to report she received a letter from a banking institution congratulating her on opening a new checking account. The complainant contacted the bank, advising them she did not open it and someone must have posed as her to gain funds. The bank closed the account.
  • A Rudolph Road resident reported at 12:43 p.m. Oct. 6, someone used her information to purchase several magazine subscriptions without her permission.

THEFT

  • A resident in the 2600 block of Woodland Drive reported at 2:13 p.m. Oct. 1, a young teen walked up to their porch and stole a package that was delivered. The subject fled on his bicycle.
  • A citizen reported at 9:01 p.m. Oct. 4, she was approached by a 5-foot-6 woman, between the ages of 30-35, with a medium build, long bleached blonde hair, wearing a white sweatsuit while walking out to his car in a parking lot in the 2400 block of Dundee Road. The woman advised the complainant he had dropped something in the building that he just exited. When the complainant turned to go back and look, the subject bumped into him. The complainant later noticed that his credit card was missing and fraudulent charges had been made on it.

RETAIL THEFT

  • The staff of a store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook road called police on Oct. 1 to report two males and a female entered the store and stole several shirts before fleeing the area.
  • Staff members at a business in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported on Oct. 3, a retail theft of various merchandise had occurred on Sept. 20.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • An employee of a business in the 1300 block of Shermer Road reported at 12:36 p.m. Oct. 3, someone damaged three bee traps for the business’ trees and left them on the ground. A pumpkin was also left on a bench in front of the business with a phallic and a swastika symbol carved into it.
  • The manager of a store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard called police at 1:54 p.m. Oct. 5, to report a man and a woman came into the store, grabbed several clothing items, and fled in a small white sport utility with Wisconsin license plates.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES

A staff member of a business in the 3100 block of Dundee Road reported at 10:44 a.m. Oct. 5, they received notice from the company’s bank indicating someone had altered one of their checks and fraudulently deposited money into in the subject’s account. The staff member confirmed the check had the payee and amount altered from the original payee.

HARASSMENT BY ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

A Wildwood Lane resident reported at 3:13 p.m. Oct. 6, he received a threatening text from a phone number that is out of state. The complainant did not know the sender, and the internet indicated this number is associated with spam complaints.
