Ruse Burglar Pretends To Offer Home Repair: Northbrook Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
IDENTITY THEFT
- A Russett Lane resident reported on the morning of April 19 that someone had used their identity to open an unauthorized credit account
- A Wendy Drive resident reported on the evening of April 25 that someone had used their identity to apply for an unspecified account.
- An Ash Lane resident reported on the afternoon of April 30 that someone had used their identity to open up a cellular account.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE

- Someone scratched a vehicle parked in the 800 block of Colonnades Drive prior to 6:20 p.m. on April 19.
- Someone played an unknown substance on the windshield of a car parked in the 1000 block of Waukegan Road prior to 3:42 p.m. on May 1, causing unspecified damage.
BURGLARIES
- Someone broke into several sheds and a trailer in the 1900 block of Raymond Drive between 3 p.m. on April 20 and 8:30 a.m. on April 22. A leaf blower was reported stolen from the trailer but nothing was noted as taken from the sheds as of the time of the report.
- Someone stole three hedge trimmers and a leaf blower after cutting the lock to a gate on a storage locker in the 1900 block of Raymond Drive at some point prior to 12:30 p.m. on April 27.
HOME BURGLARIES

- A resident in the 3000 block of Prestwick Lane reported around 8:30 p.m. on April 23 that they had been distracted by a ruse burglar who had been claiming they were doing tuck pointing in the neighborhood. About $1,000 worth of property was reported stolen. The only description police provided of the burglar was that he was a man and drove a black vehicle.
- A resident in the 1400 block of Sanders Road reported around 3 p.m. on April 30 that they discovered the back door to their garage had been left unlocked and found pieces of its lock on the ground nearby. Several items were immediately reported missing from inside teh house.
- A resident in the 1900 block of Landwehr Road reported at 2:39 p.m. on May 1 that they noticed a man take off running from in front of their residence as they returned home. When they went inside, they noticed several rooms had been distributed.
PACKAGE THEFTS
- A resident of the 4100 block of Terri-Lyn Lane reported around 9:30 p.m. on April 25 that someone had stolen a package that had been delivered to their front steps.
- A resident in the 2000 block of Maple Avenue reported around 10:30 a.m. on May 2 that a package had been marked as delivered but was not found where it was supposed to have been left.
JEWELRY THEFT
A resident in the 300 block of Sunset Court reported around noon on April 28 that they found they were missing a ring and cash from inside their home.
ARRESTS
A 26-year-old Wheeling woman was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on April 21 and charged with driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop in the 2900 block of Willow Road. She was also issued citations for driving without insurance and with only one headlight.
Sudhakar Tripurana, 54, of the 7800 block of Geneva Drive, Gurnee, was arrested following a traffic stop in the area of Shermer Road and Lorenz Drive shortly before 3 a.m. on April 23 and charged with driving under the influence of an unspecified substance. An officer on patrol noticed his car idling on the side of the road and determined the driver was impaired.
Marina G. Feffer, 24, of the 1200 block of Varsity Boulevard, Dekalb, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on April 27 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the area of Techny and Birch roads. She was also issued citations for failure to signal when required and improper lane usage.
A 29-year-old Hoffman Estates woman was arrested around 9:30 a.m. on April 29 and charged with driving with a suspended license and expired registration following a traffic stop in the first block of Skokie Boulevard.
Jordan D. Underwood, 20, of the 2600 block of North 45th Street, Milwaukee, was arrested in connection with a report of an April 10 shoplifting incident at the Northbrook Court Apple Store. She was charged with retail theft and obstructing identification after being identified as the thief who stole four Apple watches on a previous visit after store staff recognized her and called police.
Marquita L. Perry, 31, of the 4000 block of Thresher Street, Great Lakes, was arrested at 7:38 p.m. on April 30 by officers conducting an investigation at the Northbrook Court Apple Store in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road. Police reported she interfered with their efforts to resolve an investigation and took her into custody after she refused repeated requests to leave the store on charges of resisting and obstructing police.
A 22-year-old Prospect Heights man was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on May 1 and charged with driving with a suspended license. He was also issued a citation for no rear registration light.
