Water Tower Vandalized With 'No Kings' Message: Northbrook Police Blotter
Members of the Northbrook Public Works Department found the message written with black marker in the 1200 block of Cedar Lane.
NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
ZERO TOLERANCE — ALCOHOL
Luis A. Hernandez, of Wheeling, is accused of improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol, unlawful possession of alcohol under 21, and was arrested at 1:28 a.m. March 29, at Dundee Road and Anthony Trail. An officer saw a 2015 silver Chrysler 300 swerving lane to lane, and into the curb. He pulled the car over and spoke to the driver, who was identified as Hernandez. The officer could see that Hernandez had alcoholic drinks inside the car and he appeared to be intoxicated. Police said Hernandez submitted to a breath test, and it indicated he had 0.06 of alcohol in his body, thus violating the zero tolerance law while being under 21 years of age.

- A member of a fitness center in the 4100 block of Dundee Road reported an incident at 12:20 p.m. March 27. After returning to his bathroom locker after showering, he was approached by two males that said he had left items in the shower he used. The complainant then walked to the shower, and when he returned, he noticed his wallet was missing out of his open locker. The wallet contained credit cards and $120.
- A member of fitness center in the 1100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 6:33 p.m. March 28, someone had stolen his Rolex watch, valued at $15,000, from his locked locker.
- The manager of a retail store in the 900 block of Willow Road reported at 3:34 p.m. March 31, that while she was stocking shelves, she had placed her cell phone down on the loading cart and walked away to handle a different matter. When she returned, the iPhone was stolen. The manager tried calling it several times but could not locate it.
- A gym member reported on March 31 an incident that had occurred three days earlier at a fitness center in the 1100 block of Skokie Boulevard. He told police his wallet had been stolen from his gym locker at his fitness center. He received several fraud alerts on his phone indicating someone was attempting to illegally use his stolen credit cards at an Apple Store and Tiffany & Company in Skokie exceeding $5,000.
BURGLARY TO VEHICLES
The owners of a landscaping service in the 3600 block of Commercial Avenue reported at 7:33 a.m. March 30, two of their equipment trailers were broken into during the overnight hours. Several pieces of lawn equipment were stolen, valued at $7,900.
VANDALISM
- Staff of the Northbrook Public Works Department noticed at 10:57 a.m. March 31, that someone had used a marker to vandalize the water tower in the 1200 block of Cedar Lane. The person had written "No Kings" in black marker.
- An officer found spray paint graffiti at 10:15 p.m. April 1, written on the driveway of a particular business. The spray paint consisted of letters and numbers, not legible words. The management of the business was contacted.
RETAIL THEFT
The loss prevention staff at a clothing retail store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 12:59 p.m. April 1, four males had walked into the store together. One of the four grabbed a Moncler Mountain T-shirt, valued at $470, and walked out of the store without paying for it.
FORGERY
The owner of a construction business in the 1800 block of Summerton Place, reported at 2:58 p.m. April 1, he had mailed a check made out to another business in the amount of $700. When the check never arrived, he checked with his bank to see the status of it. The check was finally posted, but it had been altered. The check receiver's name had been changed to a particular person, and the amount was changed to pay $7,000. The victim did not know who that payee was.
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Bordeaux Drive resident reported at 7:02 p.m. April 1, someone had gained access to his American Express card and unlawfully charged approximately $35,000 to it. He didn't know how someone was able to gain access to his account since he still had possession of his card.
BANK FRAUD
A Greenwood Avenue resident reported at 10:44 a.m. April 2, his joint bank account with his daughter had been hacked. When they noticed no money was in the account they contacted their bank. They learned $49,000 had been illegally withdrawn from various banks in California. They didn't know how their accounts were hacked, but they are working with the bank to get a refund.
EMAIL FRAUD
Residents of Rutger Lane reported at 10:43 a.m. April 2, that they had checked their email and noticed it had been hacked. Their email inbox was erased and several of their friends had stated they had been receiving suspicious emails from their computer as well. After contacting their email carrier, they also had trouble freezing their credit as well.
