OAK LAWN, IL — The new coronavirus outbreak in Illinois and across the country is having vast impacts in Oak Lawn, including the closure of several local businesses, the library, park district and schools.

Oak Lawn recorded the second highest number of confirmed cases with 132 reported April 13. Calumet City now leads the south suburbs with 151 cases, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.

Confirmed cases in nearby towns include 58 in Evergreen Park, 63 in Bridgeview, 41 in Chicago Ridge, 63 in Blue Island, 36 in Alsip and 32 in Crestwood. Palos Hills, Palos Heights and Palos Park collectively posted 85 cases.

Across Illinois, reported COVID-19 cases topped 22,025, with 794 deaths up significantly from Sunday's record low. In Cook County, the death toll rose to 581 with 55 additional coronavirus deaths recorded by the Cook County Medical Examiner.

In suburban Cook County, confirmed cases stand at 5,512, with 205 deaths. Coronavirus has now spread to 84 communal settings, including nursing homes, long-term care facilities and jails.

A 41-year-old Burbank man who resided at the Midway Neurological and Rehabilitation Center, 8540 S. Harlem Ave., Bridgeview, died April 6.

A 67-year-old man whose address matched the Bridgeview Health Care Center at 8100 S. Harlem Ave., Bridgeview, succumbed to coronavirus at Advocate Christ Medical Center on April 10. Two other residents with the same address died last week.

A 63-year-old woman at Manor Care Palos Heights, 11860 Southwest Highway, lost her life to coronavirus on April 12 at Palos Community Hospital, according to medical examiner reports.
