U.S. Navy JROTC students from Richards also serving at two Chicago Ridge schools today.
Students need to consider their decision before attempting to join the colorguard detail of the U.S. Navy JROTC program at Richards High School.
Cadets must commit to the time required to perfect the craft. They meet both before and after school to practice for drill competitions and, during perhaps the busiest time of year, three different Veterans Day events.
Still, serving in colorguard teams comes with honor. Students appreciate the opportunity to not only represent their school but serve their community.

So it was no surprise to watch student commander Allison Lively bring the detail to attention and march them smartly to the center of the gym at Oak Lawn Hometown Middle School on November 10.
With the bleachers full of students and parents and local government officials, police officers, fire fighters and veterans standing, Bulldog Company presented colors.

They stood at attention for the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance, posted the flags of all military service branches and the United States, and then walked in unison to their seats to applause.
If no one said so, it was a wonderful start to a solemn event honoring our nation’s heroes.
The Richards students also will serve at the Veterans Day events hosted by Finley Junior High School and Ridge Lawn School in Chicago Ridge on Friday, November 11.
