Flower Thief Still On The Loose

Mary Jo Cain-Reis says police are looking at suspects in the case of a bold flower thief shown on video wandering through her yard.

ORLAND PARK, IL — No one has been charged in connection with the bold theft of a variety of flowers just days before Mother's Day in Orland Park, but police are zeroing in on a few suspects. That's according to Mary Jo Cain-Reis, the woman whose surveillance video camera captured a woman in her yard for about 30 minutes overnight on May 12 leisurely looking around at flowers before taking a handful of them.

"It's kind of unusual," Cain-Reis told Orland Park Patch on Thursday. "It's not just about the flowers, but how the theft went about. She was just there taking whatever she wanted. It was so bizarre."

"This burglar was brazen enough to walk our property, as if she was shopping at a garden center," Cain-Reis said while introducing a video that's been viewed thousands of times since she posted it on May 17. "She deliberately chose the very best of the bunch. She had the audacity to roam around for over 30 minutes, pilfering several flower pots, planters, baskets and other items."
