Palatine Woman Took Several Shots at Holiday Party Before Causing Fatal Crash: Authorities

Her BAC was three times the legal limit in the crash that killed an elderly woman and injured her husband, authorities said.

PALATINE, IL - A 24-year-old Palatine woman who authorities said had a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit has been charged with causing a crash that killed an elderly woman and injured her husband last month, according to the Daily Heald.

Bond was set at $750,000 for Amber Honaker who is charged with aggravated DUI/death of another, according to online court records.

Theresa Miceli, 85, and her husband Joseph Miceli, 84, both of South Barrington, were driving north on Mundhank Road near Higgins Road in South Barrington at about 8 p.m. on Dec. 7 when Honaker who was was driving south, collided with their car, according to the Daily Herald. Theresa died two days later.

Honaker told authorities she took several shots of liquor at a holiday party before hitting the road the night of the crash, according to the Chicago Tribune. Honaker, who suffered a broken ankle and clavicle in the crash, has no criminal history and could face up to 14 years in prison if convicted on the DUI charge.
