Polar explorer talks about facing challenges at Dec. 3 Summit program
When professional polar explorer John Huston speaks at The Summit of Uptown on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 1:30 p.m. he will ask the audience to think about their own lives as he tells his story. According to the veteran of the first American unsupported expedition to the North Pole and major expeditions to the South Pole, on Greenland and to Canada’s fabled Ellesmere Island, everyone can apply the principles of commitment, preparation, belief and adaptation he used to survive to whatever challenge might be ahead of them.
Known for quality food, services and amenities, The Summit is also locally known to present fine programs and entertainment free to community residents. There is no charge the program, but reservations are required by Monday, Nov. 30, by calling 847-825-1161, ext. 129.
Huston began his career as an instructor and sled dog trainer at the Voyageur Outward Bound School in northern Minnesota’s Boundary Waters, where he fell in love with winter expeditions. The story of how he overcame the trials and tribulations of the polar wilderness will be vividly illustrated with stunning photographs, videos and a display of expedition equipment slides. “I’m driven to take on adventures and share my stories to inspire others to overcome their own challenges,” he says. The program will also include time for questions and answers.
