Advocates for Tourism Improvement District make their pitch to the Peoria City Council (wcbu.org) — Peoria hotel owners are urging the City Council to approve a Tourism Improvement District that would add a 1.5% fee to short‑term room rentals to fund marketing the city and boosting visitor numbers. At the same meeting, council members increased support for the Phoenix Manor housing project, accepted several major grants for the Peoria Police Department, and delayed a tougher chronic nuisance property ordinance after landlord concerns.

2. Latest reported home sales in Peoria County for week ending Sept. 5 (peoriastandard.com) — Peoria County's latest batch of 63 recorded home sales shows a median price of $147,000 and a median property tax bill just under $3,000. The list includes numerous Peoria addresses plus nearby communities, giving local buyers, sellers, and homeowners a concrete snapshot of current neighborhood values and tax burdens.

3. Peoria Riverfront Museum hosts 9/11 remembrance event (centralillinoisproud.com) — Peoria residents are invited this morning to a free 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the Peoria Riverfront Museum, held with the City of Peoria and Peoria County and livestreamed at 10 a.m. The program honors local victim Charles "Chip" Chan and features area leaders, first responders, students, and a special exhibition created with the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum.

4. Dog Struggling to Breathe? Peorians May Have a Legal Case Against the AKC, says PETA Foundation (peta.org) — If you're a Peoria dog owner with a flat‑faced breed struggling to breathe, PETA Foundation says you may have a legal case against the American Kennel Club and is inviting locals to call its attorneys. A new billboard at Mt. Hawley Animal Clinic on Pioneer Parkway urges Peorians to seek help, highlighting health issues linked to breeding standards and offering a dedicated hotline for affected guardians.
