Election Challenges Filed Against Valley View, Fountaindale Candidates

Last month, a Joliet City Council candidate filed a challenge against incumbent Bettye Gavin’s nominating petitions — now several other candidates are facing scrutiny.

Objections were recently filed against Joliet Park District board candidate Amy Wendell-Blish, along with Valley View school board incumbent Leonel “Leo” Venegas and Fountaindale Public Library District board candidate Anne Burley, according to the Herald-News.

Joliet Park District resident James Lofky claims Wendell-Blish collected only 225 signatures, a far cry from the required 421.

Meanwhile, Mir Ali of Bolingbrook is challenging Venegas, who is seeking re-election in Valley View. Ali is alleging that Venegas’ petitions lack signatures and contain the names of people who are not registered voters in the school district.

Bolingbrook resident Dennis Raga filed a challenge against Fountaindale library board candidate Burley, claiming she is not a registered voter in the district and falls short of the required number of signatures, according to the report.
