No Left Turns At I-55, Weber Interchange Starting June 10

The overall project should be completed later this summer.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Left turns at the Weber Road, Interstate 55 interchange will not be allowed starting at 8 p.m. June 10 to 5 a.m. June 20, according to an update from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The change is to accommodate the installation of traffic signals and crossovers to put Weber Road traffic into the full diverging diamond configuration, according to IDOT. Motorists should follow the posted detours during this time.

The $47.9 million project, which involves reconfiguring and widening the existing interchange into a diverging diamond design and adding a third lane of travel to each direction of Weber Road, between Normantown Road and 119th Street/Rodeo Road, should be completed later this summer, IDOT said.

The project also includes installing modernized traffic signals at the intersections of Normantown Road, Remington Boulevard/Windham Parkway, Rodeo Drive/Remington Boulevard and at the interchange ramps, as well as new LED lighting, improved drainage, a raised median and landscaping.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area, IDOT said. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
