Joliet Teen Wanted For Valentine's Day Shooting Found Hiding in Attic: Cops

The wanted gunman was nabbed with pills and pot, police said.

A Joliet teen wanted for a Valentine’s Day gun attack was found hiding in the attic of a house on Anderson Avenue, police said.

Ryan Nelson, 18, had a warrant out for his arrest charging him with the aggravated discharge of a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, and the aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

On the morning of Feb. 14, Nelson allegedly went into the Ridgewood Food Mart on Copperfield Avenue and tossed around some gang talk before leaving and getting into a car.

As he was departing, Nelson opened fire on a Chevy Equinox—and the man sitting inside it—that was parked outside the store, police said. Nelson managed to hit the car but the man inside emerged unscathed.

The police went looking for Nelson at the house on Anderson Avenue just before midnight Monday. A resident reportedly gave officers permission to search the premises and they found Nelson hiding in the attic.

When Nelson was taken into custody, police allegedly found him in possession of two bags of pills and a bag of pot, leading to additional charges of possession of a controlled substance and delivery of cannabis.
