Teen Who Scalded Cat With Hot Water Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison

CHICAGO, IL — A South Side teen who pleaded guilty to animal torture after scalding a cat with boiling water and posting the video on Facebook was sentenced to three years Monday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Police arrested Leon Teague, 18, of the 6900 block of King Drive, in February after he was identified as the person in an online video pouring hot water on a cat. At the time, he was charged with felony animal torture and misdemeanor depiction of animal cruelty.
In the video, a pot of boiling water was shown on a stove, and a voice was heard luring the cat to come closer. Once the cat comes into view, the water is poured on the feline.

The cat, which is named Driver, survived the scalding and was treated at Felines & Canines, a North Side shelter, the report stated. Driver is almost entirely healed from the injuries and is currently living with a new family now, the report added.

The shelter also posted a Facebook update Monday in praise of the Teague's sentence.
"This is a massive win for the animals that sends an unwavering message to the public that animal abuse will NOT be tolerated in our city," the post stated.
