Man Sexually Assaults Person Sleeping on Couch: Cops
The 42-year-old St. Charles man has been arrested and faces home invasion and sex assault charges.
ST. CHARLES, IL — A 42-year-old St. Charles man is facing felony charges after authorities linked him to a sexual assault that occurred early Saturday, police said. Jason A. Carter is accused of entering a home in the 300 block of Illinois Street just before 2 a.m. Saturday and sexually assaulting a victim who was sleeping on a couch, according to a news release from police. Authorities were called to the home and "encountered" Carter who was outside the residence.
The victim identified Carter as the person responsible for the sexual assault, according to police. He is charged with home invasion, a Class X felony, and criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony.
Authorities believe the sexual assault was "an isolated incident involving an acquaintance of the victim," but are still urging and reminding residents to lock their doors at night or when they are away from their homes.

Just a day before the sex assault, police issued a similar statement, asking residents to remember to lock their doors and windows following a daytime burglary in town. During that incident, a homeowner returned to his home on South 13th Street to find what appeared to be a burglary in progress. A struggle followed between the two burglars and the homeowner before the suspects fled on foot, according to a new release.
Authorities were still looking for the suspects late last week, police said, and the homeowner was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The burglars were wearing grey sweatshirts and ski masks at the time of the burglary, police said.
