• Illinois flag football rankings: USA TODAY Sports Super 10, Week 7 (usatoday.com) — St. Charles North's flag football team is sitting at No. 1 in the statewide Super 10 rankings with a 20-0 record as the Illinois postseason heads into regional finals. The state semifinals and championship will be held Oct. 17 at Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, with other top contenders including Willowbrook, Glenbrook South, and Evanston.

• 5 Winners Selected for the 2026 Therapeutic Garden Grant Program (greenhousegrower.com) — A St. Charles nonprofit, Rising Light Project, just earned first place and a $3,000 grant in a national therapeutic garden competition, supporting its outdoor classroom for adults with disabilities. The program uses gardening to teach horticulture, sustainability, nutrition, and life skills, while building social and vocational confidence. Four other organizations nationwide also received smaller awards.

• 'Another World's' Mark Mortimer, Who Played Nick Hudson, Dies at 59 from Cancer (michaelfairmantv.com) — A beloved soap actor who once starred on Another World has been laid to rest in St. Charles, bringing a very personal connection to local readers. Mark Mortimer, 59, died of cancer in late September and was remembered for both his television work and his efforts to help other cancer patients through the Integrative Access Foundation he co-founded with his wife.
