Customers aren’t “Lovin’ it” when it comes to the Mcdonald’s menu because they use chemicals and other unpopular ingredients for their food. Mcdonald’s has been having fewer customers. They are facing problems competing with smaller food chains because they are promoting healthier foods, so Mcdonald’s needed to step up their game. Mcdonald’s is trying to convince people that they don’t serve junk because they are removing unpopular ingredients.
Mcdonald’s will stop using some chemicals in their food. Chicken nuggets are now made without artificial preservatives, which are chemicals that keep food from spoiling. They will also remove high fructose corn syrup in their hamburger buns. “High fructose corn syrup is a sweetener made from corn” (Washington Post 2016). Experts say it’s unhealthy and makes people overweight. Mcdonald's is trying to fight for customers to come buy their food, and since chains smaller than them are making healthier food, less people are going to Mcdonald’s. President of Mcdonald’s U.S., Mike Andres, questioned, “Why go to the position of trying to defend them, if the consumer is saying, I prefer not to have that particular ingredient in my food?” (Washington Post 2016). Mcdonald’s isn’t dealing with the big problem of the food- the calories. You need calories from food because it supplies energy that people’s bodies. However, too many calories can make people overweight and unhealthy. Now other competing food chains are making changes of their own. For instance Dunkin’ Donuts promised to put more egg in their egg patty. Taco Bell is also removing “black pepper flavor” and putting actual black pepper.

Mcdonald’s is making more money in the United States. Mcdonald’s is now serving breakfast all day, which is helping sales. The company also said they aren’t using antibiotics in their chicken to make them grow faster. Scientists said use of antibiotics on the farm because it has “superbugs,” which can cause infections that are hard to treat in humans. Also, a Mcdonald’s chef demonstrated making egg Mcmuffins with freshly cracked eggs. Mcdonald’s is emphasizing that it serves real food. Do you know what you’re really eating?
