4 Cars Burglarized In 1 Week In Wheaton: Cops

Police say this follows a rash of similar burglaries throughout the suburbs.

WHEATON, IL — Wheaton is one of the latest suburbs hit by a string of ongoing car burglaries. Police say a total of four vehicles were burglarized within just days of each other.

Three of the incidents were reported on the same day, according to police records:

1500 block of Coloma Pl.: The victim told police that a suspect or suspects stole cash from inside their car sometime between 4 p.m. on June 17 and 6 a.m. on June 18. Police say the car had been left unlocked.

100 block of E. Dawes Ave.: Police say a wallet was stolen from inside a car that had been parked in the victim's driveway. Police say the victim reported the incident just after 8 a.m. and that the vehicle was not locked.

1200 block of E. Lowden Ave.: A suspect or suspects stole a purse from a car that was parked in the driveway to the victim's home. Police say the car had been left unlocked.

3400 block of Wakeman Ave.: A handicap placard was stolen from inside a resident's vehicle. The victim told police the burglary took place sometime between June 20 and 23.

These recent burglaries are among dozens of recent vehicle burglaries to unlocked cars in suburbs near Wheaton.

Glen Ellyn Police reported in March that 90% of their vehicle burglaries had been committed on unsecured cars. In June, Naperville police responded to 35 car burglary reports, all of them to unlocked cars.
