Today's riddle: What is the difference between black eyed peas and chick peas? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Man Set Fire To His Aunt And Uncle's House In Wheaton: Police (patch.com) — Wheaton residents are learning more about a serious arson case after police say a man poured gasoline on his aunt and uncle's Woodlawn Street home and set it on fire, then turned himself in at the Wheaton Police Department. A quick-acting neighbor reportedly used a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames, and officials say the suspect is now in DuPage County Jail awaiting an October court date.
2. Curb, Sidewalk Repairs To Cause Detours Near Memorial Park (patch.com) — Drivers in Wheaton should prepare for temporary detours near Memorial Park as curb and sidewalk repairs continue along Gary Avenue and West Street over the next several weeks. City officials say access to Longfellow Elementary will remain open, but short-term detours and posted signs will guide traffic around the work zones.
3. Bourbon Trail, 'Ghouling Pianos,' More Planned For Memorial Park After Dark (patch.com) — Memorial Park will host a new adults-only "Memorial Park After Dark" evening in Wheaton on Oct. 17, featuring bourbon tastings, live "ghouling pianos," food vendors, and lantern-lit activities. Early-bird ticket pricing runs through Sept. 16, with prices increasing on Sept. 17 and again at the gate, so residents may want to decide soon how much access they'd like, especially to the Bourbon Trail stations.
4. The Right Person in the Right Season: Desteni Benson (thewheatonrecord.com) — Wheaton residents connected to Wheaton College may soon see more programming from the Office of Intercultural Engagement, as alumna Desteni Benson steps into a new program coordinator role. She'll help departments live out the college's Kingdom Diversity Action Plan, drawing on her graduate work, residence life experience, and strong emphasis on justice, unity, diversity, and inclusion rooted in her Christian faith.
5. Meet Arthur Emanuel 'Holly' Swanson (positivelynaperville.com) — A nostalgic profile of entertainer Arthur "Holly" Swanson highlights his years living in nearby Naperville and his work as a bailiff at the DuPage County Complex in Wheaton. The story traces his Chicago roots, musical career on WLS Barn Dance, family life, and final resting place in Naperville Cemetery.
