Wheaton, IL &ndash; April 27, 2026 &ndash; Milton Township recently held its annual meeting at the Wheaton Community Center, approaching a year of transformative progress under the newly elected Township officials. After a complete change in leadership in 2025, they have since implemented three new service standards to enhance support and resources for township residents.
In her opening remarks, the Milton Township Supervisor Buffy Higgins-Beard emphasized the spirit of neighborliness that defines their community. &ldquo;Milton Township shows up, listens, and works together to better our community,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;This meeting is not just about government processes but about celebrating the accomplishments we are achieving collectively.&rdquo;
Local Needs Met Through Local Services
At the annual meeting, residents learned about significant service achievements, including:
- The Milton Township 708 Community Mental Health Board granted a historic $1.3 million to neighboring mental health programs.
- The Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T) is saving DuPage County taxpayers $333,165 through dedicated volunteer service.
- The Milton Township Food Pantry serves over 13,000 individuals within the community.
- Over $120,000 granted in 2025 to assist Milton Township residents facing financial challenges.
A More Transparent Township
Throughout the past year, the new Township Board has implemented prudent fiscal management practices, completing overdue audits and operating with zero debt&mdash;a rarity today. Regular publication of meeting packets containing financial records has increased transparency, ensuring that residents remain informed about township operations.
One of the standout initiatives accomplished this year was the commitment to transparency, highlighted by the proactive updates from Township Clerk Dan Bailey, who made township board meeting <a href="https://miltontownship.net/business_detail_T23_R63.php" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">videos available on the Township website</a>. 
Modernization of Milton Township
In addition to these accomplishments, the Township has embraced modern technology with the introduction of a new website and mobile app, making it easier for residents to access information about available services. The partner 501(c)3 Milton Township Food Pantry has also expanded its hours to better serve members in need, reinforcing the Township&rsquo;s commitment to accessibility and support.
The meeting emphasizes Milton Township&rsquo;s dedication to evolving services and educating residents about the resources available to them. The community is invited to continue engaging with township initiatives and explore the various programs designed to enhance their livelihoods.

St. Barnabas Episcopal Church

St. Barnabas is hosting the “Uncaged Art” exhibit, on loan to the Sanctuary Task Force by the Diocese of San Joaquin.&nbsp;The exhibit is free and open to the public this coming Friday, May 15th, from 10am - 12pm and 6pm - 7pm. It will also be open on Sunday, May 10th from 11:30am - 12:30pm.&nbsp;
“Uncaged Art” showcases artwork by children held in the&nbsp;<a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/tornillo-texas-tent-camp-housed-thousands-migrant-children/story?id=60319788" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Tornillo Detention Center</a>&nbsp;in Texas between June 2018 and January 2019.&nbsp;
Their resilient works of art were born&nbsp;of sadness while they stayed at the Tornillo immigrant detention center in El Paso, Texas, in 2018 and 2019. The artists, migrant children ages 13 to 17, were separated from their families and housed for nearly a year in the makeshift tent city.
When the detention center closed and officials began throwing out the artwork, a Catholic priest recovered 29 pieces, which comprise the exhibit.
The Uncaged Art exhibit now traveling in Chicago includes photos of the children's artwork. The originals are being kept safe at University of Texas at El Paso.
