Cops Share Tips To Deter Crime During Holiday Season In Wheaton
Wheaton police recently shared several tips to help residents stay safe while they shop during the holiday season.
WHEATON, IL — As residents continue snagging up gifts to share with loved ones this season, Wheaton police are offering crime prevention tips to help make holiday shopping safer.
The Wheaton Police Department recommends the following tips to help prevent being a victim of "porch pirates," identity thieves and other criminals this holiday season:
- Track packages
- Arrange for neighbors or family to bring packages inside if you won't be at home
- Share special instructions for delivery drivers
- Install a video doorbell
- Avoid leaving phones, wallets and purses unattended while shopping in stores
- Don't leave gifts or other items where people can see them in your car
- Stay vigilant when using your credit or debit card

In late November, a phone was stolen at the Main Street Jewel after it was left unattended near a register and a cellphone was stolen from a cart at Mariano's.
