Car Burglary Spree Hits Wilmette, 2 Crime Alerts Issued

A total of 11 cars have been burgled in Wilmette since the start of September, Wilmette police say.

WILMETTE, IL — A string of car thefts has caused the Wilmette Police Department to issue two crime alerts over the past week, the Record North Shore reported.

Four unlocked cars, each with the keys or key fobs inside, were stolen over five days in Wilmette, according to the WPD. In the alert, police noted that three unlocked cars were taken overnight on Sep. 5-6. One vehicle was stolen from the 600 block of Forest Avenue, while the other two were taken from nearby driveways on Greenwood Avenue, according to police.

The previous week, on Sep. 2-3, seven unlocked parked cars in Wilmette were burglarized.

Most Wilmette residents seem to be following that advice: car thefts are down in Wilmette in 2021 after a substantial rise in 2020, according to the WPD’s annual report.
