Teed Off Driver Snaps Over Photo, Faces Assault Charge: Blotter

A golf club road rage threat, a felony DUI charge and several stolen street signs on the Wilmette Police Blotter for May 3 to 28.

WILMETTE, IL — The following information comes from the Wilmette Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Anyone named below is innocent unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

INCIDENTS

THEFT
A Birchwood Lane resident reported that books have been stolen from an front yard outdoor library five times between August 2017 and April 25, when about 30 books were stolen.

BURGLARY TO AUTO
A resident in the 800 block of Green Bay Road reported that someone stole two new license plates between May 5 and May 7.

IDENTITY THEFT
A LeClaire Avenue resident reported that between Feb. 20 and May 7 someone used their personal information to open up a PayPal credit card and charge about $5,000 to it.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Schiller Avenue resident reported that sometime between April 30 and May 7 someone used their social security number and a business license to open up a bank account using the name of a former business.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of the 400 block of 17th Street reported on May 5 that someone had used their personal information at a T-Mobile store in Minneapolis to buy various items and services after being notified of a new device added to their cellular account.

THEFT OF MISLAID ITEM
A patron of a Chase Bank ATM at 50 Skokie Blvd. reported that sometime between 2 and 2:20 p.m. on May 6 someone took their $400 sunglasses that they had left inside the vestibule.

SHOPLIFTING
A man dressed with a red and blue backpack stole unknown items from the Walgreens at 811 Green Bay Rd. around 8:05 p.m. on May 7. He reportedly left the red backpack outside the main entrance and picked it up as he left.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Forest Avenue resident reported that between May 5 and May 7 someone made $7,560 worth of unauthorized withdrawals from a checking account and cashed a fraudulent cashier's check in Gainesville, Florida.

DATING SCAM
A Central Avenue resident reported they may have been scammed after someone they had met in the context of an online relationship between April 1 and 27 convinced them to send $6,000 via money order.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Beechwood Avenue resident reported on May 7 that someone used their personal information to open up a Williams Sonoma credit card and accrue charges in Alexandria, Virginia.

THEFT
A resident of the 400 block of Locust Road reported on May 11 that license plates that had been sent by the Illinois Secretary of State had been opened up and were missing.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a laptop from an unlocked car in the 1500 block of Isabella Street between May 11 and May 14.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Birchwood Avenue resident reported someone opened up a Kohl's credit card using their personal information sometime beween May 1 and May 9.

THEFT
Police noticed someone stole the "Spencer" street sign from the intersection of Spencer Avenue and 15th Street on the morning of May 22.

IDENTITY THEFT
A North Branch Road resident reported on May 25 that someone had used their personal information to open up lines of credit at Williams Sonoma and Kohl's in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

THEFT
A resident of the 600 block of Lake Avenue reported on on May 25 that someone stole a bench from their driveway near the alley between 1 and 3 a.m.

THEFT
Police noticed someone stole the "Elmwood" street sign from the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and 15th Street on the morning of May 25.

CAR BURGLARY
A resident of the 200 block of Golf Terrace reported on May 25 that someone stole a laptop computer from an unlocked car parked in the driveway during the previous night.

CAR BURGLARY
A resident in the 200 block of Golf Terrace reported that someone stole three pairs of sunglasses from an unlocked vehicle parked in the drive during the overnight hours of May 24 to 25.

THEFT
Someone stole the license plate off of the back of a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Park Avenue between 9 p.m. on May 25 and 5:30 p.m. on May 26.

HOUSE FIRE
The basement of a home in the 1100 block of Hibbard Road was destroyed by a fire reported at 10:14 p.m. on May 26. Everyone inside the house was able to exit safely, and fire crews from multiple local jurisdictions helped put out the fire. The origin and cause of the fire were not immediately known.

GARAGE BURGLARY
A resident of the 1200 block of Elmwood Avenue reported on May 27 that sometime during the previous overnight hours someone had entered an unlocked garage and rifled through three cars parked inside. Nothing was reported missing from the vehicles but two bicycles were stolen.

TRESPASSING
A resident of the 600 block of Lake Avenue reported on May 27 that sometime during the previous overnight hours someone had entered an unlocked garage and ransacked two vehicles parked inside, although nothing was reported missing.

GARAGE BURGLARY
A resident of the 900 block of Sheridan Road reported on May 27 that sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. someone stole a bicycle from their unlocked garage.

CAR BURGLARY
A resident in the 200 block of Linden Avenue reported on May 27 that someone stole a laptop and a cellphone from an unlocked car during the previous overnight house.

STOLEN CAR
A resident in the 700 block of Elmwood Avenue reported on May 27 that sometime between 2 p.m. on May 26 and 5:52 a.m. on May 27 someone stole an unspecified unlocked vehicle with the keys having been left inside.

IDENTITY THEFT
An Elmwood Avenue resident reported on May 27 that someone had used their credit card to make an unauthorized $3,000 purchase of stereo equipment and another $2,000 purchase of unspecified items. The thief was also able to have the resident's mail held.

ARRESTS

Martha Lee Goodrum, 45, of the 1700 block of Colonial Lane in Northbrook, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a traffic crash and various traffic offenses on May 4. Around 7:49 p.m. police were called to the intersection of Schiller Avenue and Ridge Road for a report of a hit-and-run traffic crash that had just occurred. Witnesses gave police the license plate of the fleeing vehicle, which was registered to an address in Wilmette.

A 43-year-old Des Plaines woman was arrested at 2:29 a.m. on May 5 and charged with driving with a revoked driver's license and various traffic offenses after she was pulled over for a traffic violation while entering the Edens Expressway at Willow Road.

Joanne J. Matousek, 56, of the 1000 block of Romona Road in Wilmette, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol following a two-car crash near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Ridge Road at 10:48 a.m. on May 5. When police arrived she appeared to be "severely intoxicated." She was hospitalized with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.564 and prosecutors approved a felony charge.

Shawn Post, 24, of the 3000 block of Highland Avenue in Wilmette, was arrested at 12:32 p.m. on May 9 and charged with assault following a road rage incident in the area of Wilmette Avenue and Hunter Road. Police were called for a report that he had driven on the parkway while trying to pass another car. Another motorist snapped a photo of his car, so Post got out of his car, took a golf club from his trunk and demanded that the other driver delete the photo. The other driver refused, and Post reported got back into his car and left. Police were provided with Post's license plate, showed up to his house and arrested him.

Brian Rogers, 33, of the 1800 block of South McClelland Street in Salt Lake City, Utah was arrested at 11:29 p.m. on May 23 in the 800 block of Lacrosse Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police pulled over his vehicle for matching the description of a suspicious car that had been reported. A breath test indicated he had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.263.
