WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from official reports compiled by the police departments of Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka as a record of police activity and of those arrested. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indicator of guilt and criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state, which are often dropped or reduced. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

On Sept. 27, a resident of the 500 block of Drexel Avenue reported that someone opened a new credit card account using their identity and used it to buy more than $500 worth of items.

On Oct. 2, a resident of the 900 block of Elm Ridge Drive reported that someone entered their unlocked Ford SUV and stole a laptop and a Springfield Armory 9 mm handgun.

Matthew Dippold, 39, of the 1100 block of Terrace Court, was arrested Oct. 4 at 8:17 p.m. and charged with battery and resisting arrest in the block of his residence.

An 18-year-old Chicago man was arrested near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Grove Street and on Oct. 8 at 4:31 p.m. and turned over to Hinsdale Police on an outstanding warrant connected to an obstructing identification charge.

THEFT

On Sept. 26 around 8:28 p.m., a resident in the 2200 block of Martin Lane noticed a dark SUV running outside their home. After it drove away, the resident discovered a black and orange Mongoose bicycle with Halo wheels worth $500 was missing from in front of the home.

STOLEN VEHICLE

On Oct. 1 at 7:24 p.m., police were called to Field Land Rover in the 600 block of West Frontage Road for a report of a burglary and the theft of an SUV. Police said someone broke the glass panes on the garage bay doors between 6 p.m. and 7:24 p.m. before going i and taking a 2014 Land Rover valued at $45,000. There was also $2,000 in damage to the garage door. The investigation continues.

FRAUD

On Oct. 2, someone tried to use a stolen prescription form to fill a prescription at Walgreens. The suspect fled the area before police arrived. An investigation continues.

IDENTITY THEFT

On Oct. 6, a resident in the 400 block of Whittier Lane reported that someone purchased more than $49,000 worth of stamps and packing materials from the post office and charged it on their credit card. The items were shipped and found near the mailbox before being turned over to police. The credit card was cancelled and the case is under investigation.

STOLEN VEHICLE

On Oct. 8 at 4:55 a.m., an officer on patrol noticed a vehicle's owner's manual and registration, along with other papers scattered along the south side of Willow Road at Lockwood. A resident of the 1700 block of Northfield Square told police his 2012 gray Honda Civic, valued at $9,500, was taken after having been parked in front of his house the previous day. Police are investigating.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

An 18-year-old Sheboygan, Wisconsin woman was arrested Sept. 29 at 2:08 a.m. on Willow Road at Sunset Ridge Road and charged with driving with a revoked license. She was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lighting.

Patricia Cardonello, 46, of the 8700 block of South Escanaba, Chicago, was arrested Sept. 30 at 3:20 a.m. and charged with felony DUI. Police said an officer on southbound Central Avenue at Willow Road noticed her driving slowly before accelerating rapidly. She then stopped in the middle of the intersection on a green light. During a traffic stop, the officer noted Cardonello had bloodshot, glassy eyes and smelled alcohol on her. She was charged with aggravated DUI, due to the fact she did not have a valid license. She was also issued citations for illegal transportation of alcohol, improper backing and damage to public property after she punched the wall in the Northfield Police Department's booking room, leaving a dent in its drywall.

A 46-year-old Northbrook man was arrested on Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m. at Willow and Wagner roads and charged with driving with a suspended licese. Police said he was pulled over after an officer noticed he was talking on his cell phone while driving. He was also issued a citation for operating a vehicle while using an electronic communication device.

A 30-year-old Chicago man was arrested Oct. 6 at 4:09 a.m. at Willow and Sunset Ridge roads and charged with driving with a revoked license and speeding 43 mph in a 30 mph zone.

Barbara A. Fletcher, 66, of the 300 block of Woodstock Avenue in Kenilworth, was arrested on Cook County battery warrant on Oct. 7 at 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Winnetka and North Happ roads after an officer noticed her run a stoplight on westbound Winnetka Avenue. She was released on bond ahead of an Oct. 30 court date.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT

On Sept. 25, resident of the 800 block of Lamson Drive reported that someone used their personal information to open up a fraudulent checking account at 3:24 a.m. on Aug. 26 at Global Payments Check Services and make an electronic debit to the account for a loss of $2,002.

CAR BURGLARY

A resident of the 500 block of Hawthorn Lane reported that someone entered an unlocked vehicle in their driveway and stole a watch and two pairs of sunglasses, worth a combined $2,200, between 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 and 5:15 a.m. on Sept. 27.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A resident of the 500 block of Willow Road reported that someone damaged the driver's side window of their vehicle with an unknown object between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Sept. 29.

THEFT

A person at Elder Lane Park reported that someone stole a locked paddle board from a rack at the lower beach area between 11 a.m. on Sept. 26 and 9 a.m. on Sept. 30 for a loss of $1,400.

THEFT

A resident of the 100 block of Bertling Lane reported that between 1 p.m. on Sept. 1 and 7 p.m. on Sept. 10, someone had removed a crystal bowl containing various pieces of jewelry worth more than $10,000.

THEFT

The owner of a restaurant in the 500 block of Chestnut Street reported that someone removed $60 in cash from the register between 4:25 and 4:35 on Oct. 5.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

On the morning of Oct. 7, an employee working in the 500 block of Oak Street reported that someone damaged a construction sign in front of a residence during the previous overnight hours for a repair cost of $100.

CAR BURGLARY

A resident of the 300 block of Rosewood Avenue reported that someone went into and rummaged through two unlocked cars that had been parked in their driveway, stealing $1 worth of coins from one of the vehicles during the previous overnight hours.

THEFT

A patron in the 500 block of Chestnut Street reported that someone stole an unlocked Fat Tire mountain bike worth $1,000 that had been parked in the area between 4:45 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Oct. 8.

ARRESTS

A 15-year-old New Trier girl was arrested Sept. 30 at 2:24 p.m. near the intersection of Willow Road and White Oak Lane after she was involved in a traffic crash. Police said she was driving without a valid license and also cited for failure to yield.

A 12-year-old boy from the New Trier township area was arrested for battery at the Winnetka Police Department on Oct. 6 at 8:30 p.m. in connection with an investigation of an incident that occurred on Sept. 29. The case has been referred to juvenile court.
