This is What Happens When Women Read: A Discussion with Julianna Glasse and Hannah Pittard

The Book Stall welcomes acclaimed singer and author Julianna Glasse for a powerful discussion featuring her new book, This Is What Happens When Women Read, an empowering journey to self-actualization by a former Evangelical Christian pop star whose life was transformed when she began reading books that had been forbidden to her. In this impactful, riveting memoir, Julianna writes of her very public and painful split from both the church and her marriage and the books she read that inspired her to reclaim her life as an autonomous, independent woman on a path to self-discovery and purpose. Ms. Glasse will be in-conversation with author Hannah Pittard. 

Julianna Glasse is a former Christian pop star and the founder and CEO of This Is What Happens When Women Read, a global organization dedicated to the liberation of women through education and safe community. She holds a master’s degree from the Saïd Business School at Oxford University, with which she has created a partnership to provide scholarships to educate, support, and empower women who have left restrictive religious communities. She currently resides in New York City.

Hannah Pittard is the author of six books, including the memoir We Are Too Many and the novel If You Love It, Let It Kill You. She is a winner of the Amanda Davis Highwire Fiction Award, a MacDowell fellow (‘12, ‘23, ‘25), and the Guy M. Davenport Professor in English at the University of Kentucky. She lives with her boyfriend and stepdaughter in Lexington. Much of her family lives nearby.
