Cell Phone Tickets Lead To Arrests, Woman Receives Harassing Calls At Work: Glencoe, Winnetka, Northfield Crime Reports

Glencoe, Northfield, Winnetka Police Blotters: Aug. 28 - Sept 5

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from official reports of local police departments as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges are often dropped or reduced. Everyone is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


WINNETKA

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

On Aug. 29 at 9:14 a.m., a village employee discovered that the previous night between 7:47 p.m. and 8:02 p.m. someone had used black spray paint to deface the underpass areas around the 200 block of Green Bay Road. The estimated cost to repair was $350.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 29, someone used an unknown object to do $35 damage to a front door in the 1400 block of Scott Avenue.

THEFT

Between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Aug. 30, someone stole a men's "Giant" bicycle and repair kit worth $700 from a vehicle parked in a lot in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue.

DUI

Marcos Glefi, 39, of the 400 block of Cedar Street, was arrested in his block of residence shortly before 10 p.m. on Aug. 31. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also issued citation for disobeying a stop sign and driving without his lights on.

IDENTITY THEFT

Someone make more than $4,000 in unauthorized purchases on Aug. 30 using the credit card information of a resident in the 300 block of Hawthorn Lane, police were told on Sept. 1.

DUI

Jorge Cabrera-Gonzalez, 34, of the 2600 block of Central Street in Evanston, was arrested on Sept. 4 at 1:21 a.m. near the intersection of Sheridan Road and Hawthorn Lane. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A resident of the 1100 block of Hamptondale Avenue reported on the evening of Sept. 4 that sometime between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. that day someone had done $150 worth of damage to his slackline that was tied between two trees.

IDENTITY THEFT

On the afternoon of Aug. 31, police were told that someone used the personal identifiers of a resident in the 500 block of Orchard Lane to sign up for unemployment benefits without authorization on May 22, 2016. The financial losses were not immediately known.


GLENCOE

DUI

Patrick E. Ward, 46, of the 1100 block of Green Bay Road, Highland Park, was arrested Aug. 30 shortly before 2 a.m. on Frontage Road. He was charged with driving under the influence, illegal transportation of alcohol, possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued citations for speeding and improper lane usage. Police did not disclose the circumstances that led to his arrest.

IDENTITY THEFT

On the morning of Aug. 30, police were told that someone had cashed a check using the bank info of a resident in the 200 block of Sylvan Road and deposited it into another account. Police did not disclose the reported loss, other than to say it was more than $500.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

On the morning of Sept. 2, police were told someone struck a metal pole securing a parking lot in the 1600 block of Frontage Road. The value was unknown.

SPEEDING

A 22-year-old Highland Park man was arrested on Sept. 4 at 8:12 a.m. near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Westley Road and charged with speeding between 26 and 34 mph above the posted limit.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident of the 900 block of Forestway Drive reported on the afternoon of on Sept. 5 that someone had "cashed an e-check at a casino which the bank did not approve." Police did not disclose the reported loss, other than to say it was less than $500.


NORTHFIELD

SCAM ATTEMPT

On Aug. 29 at 3:45 p.m., a Northfield resident told police two callers tried to obtain "bail money" from her for her grandson. The callers demanded $1,000 in "bail money" to be paid via a gift card. When the resident called back the suspects, they hung up the phone and there was no reported loss.

SUSPENDED LICENSE/ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

On Aug. 29 at 5:14 p.m., an officer on patrol in the 500 block of West Frontage Road noticed a passing motorist speaking on a handheld cell phone. Police pulled over the driver and identified him as a 25-year-old Baraboo, Wisconsin man without a valid license. He was arrested and also issued a citation for using an electronic communication device while driving.

TELEPHONE HARASSMENT

On Aug. 30 at 9:41 p.m. a business in the 400 block of West Frontage Road reported receiving explicit harassing phone calls for a female employee. Detectives are investigating.

SUSPENDED LICENSE/NO INSURANCE/ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

A 23-year-old Chicago woman was arrested Sept. 1 at 4:46 p.m. in the 500 block of West Frontage Road and charged with driving with a suspended license after an officer on patrol saw her holding a cell phone to her ear while driving. After pulling her over police learned she had no proof of insurance and a suspended license.
