Glencoe Man Batters Cops; Calls From Fake Police, ComEd: Blotters

2 cars stolen, DUI drivers in crashes, found with drugs on the Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka police blotters from Nov. 21 to Nov. 27.

GLENCOE, IL — The following information comes from the Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

STOLEN CAR
A 2017 Land Rover with a large, undetermined amount of cash inside was reported stolen from the 1000 block of Elm Ridge Drive around 10 a.m. on Nov. 24. It had been left unlocked with the key fob inside.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 600 block of Sheridan Road reported around 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 26 that someone had done an estimated $1,000 in damage to a lamp post at the end of the driveway.

SCAM ATTEMPT
A Greenwood Avenue resident reported that people had tried to deceive them into paying for an "overdue ComEd bill" by buying $1,500 in pre-paid cards. The resident purchased the cards but called the power company to verify. However, due to outages, the resident could not get through to the company, but the resident determined the calls had not come from ComEd and called police.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Monroe Avenue resident reported around 1 p.m. on Nov. 27 that someone had called them claiming their Target account was under investigation for possible fraud. The caller asked the resident for their social security number before hanging up the phone. The resident also received two credit card applications in the mail, despite not having applied for either.

ARRESTS

Bernardo Medina, 44, of the 6400 block of Francisco Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 2 a.m. on Nov. 19 following a traffic stop in the area of Dundee Road and the Edens Expressway. He was found with cocaine and charged with possession of an controlled substance, driving without a valid license and driving under the influence. He was also issued citations for driving an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage and minimum speed restriction after police encountered him going between 16 and 20 mph on Dundee Road.

Gregory Mitchell, 60, of the 5000 block of West 179th Street, Country Club Hills, was arrested around 5:15 p.m. on Nov. 21 and charged with DUI in the area of Lake Cook and Sheridan roads. He was also issued citations for driving an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash. No one was injured when he rear ended another vehicle.

A 23-year-old Lincolnwood man was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 23 in the area of Dundee Road and the Edens Expressway and charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia and issued citations for no rear license plate light, obstructed driver's view, driver's license not on person and disobeying a traffic signal.

Israel Fermin-Rubio, 38, of the 1200 block of Roth Court, Wheeling, was arrested around 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 23 on an unspecified block of Dundee Road and charged with driving under the influence. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol.

A 21-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested around 1 a.m. on Nov. 25 in the area of Dundee Road and the Edens Expressway and charged with driving with a suspended license. He was also issued cited for speeding, improper lane usage and an uninsured motor vehicle.

Gennadiy V. Podymov, 51, of the 1100 block of Terrace Court, Glencoe, was arrested around 9:45 p.m. on Nov. 27 in the 1100 block of Terrace Court and charged with domestic battery, resisting arrest and aggravated battery to a peace officer after he kicked an officer.

WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT
A Walden Road resident reported on Nov. 19 that someone had used their personal information to receive a fraudulent driver's license and was able to make several withdrawals from a bank equity line of credit between Oct. 25 and Oct. 26 totaling more than $5,000.

BURGLARIES/TRESPASSING TO MOTOR VEHICLES

  • Someone got into an unlocked car parked in the 500 block of Ash Street During the overnight hours of Nov. 18 to Nov. 19, stealing $1.50 in loose change.
  • Someone rummaged through the contents of a car left unlocked in the 400 block of Berkeley Avenue during the overnight hours of Nov. 23 and Nov. 23. Nothing was reported stolen.

SCAM ATTEMPT
An Orchard Lane resident reported getting an email between Oct. 29 and Nov. 20 from someone purporting to be a former college who sent a fraudulent check related to part-time work.

THEFTS

  • A resident in the 900 block of Pine Street reported someone stole a recycling bin worth $150 from the driveway.
  • Someone removed a white wooden sign from North Shore Country Day School between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Nov. 24. The sign was later found in the area of Woodley Road and returned to school staff.
  • Sometime between noon and 2 p.m. on Nov. 25, someone stole a wallet left unattended at the McDonald's, 858 Green Bay Road, containing cash, cards and a gold chain for a loss of more than $5,000.

STOLEN CAR
A resident in the 800 block of Gordon Terrace reported around 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 23 that someone had stolen an unlocked car from the driveway that had a key fob left inside. It was later recovered in Chicago.

FENCE DAMAGE
A resident in the 300 block of Chestnut Street reported that someone an estimated $400 in damage to their fence between 5 p.m. on Nov. 24 and 3 p.m. on Nov. 25.

ARRESTS

Jessica Y. Galvan-Galicia, 24, of the 1100 block of Longmeadow Lane, Glencoe, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 23 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the area of Tower Road and Vernon Avenue. She was also issued citations for speeding and improper lane usage.


NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A Happ Road resident reported around 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 that someone had used their credit card to make several unauthorized purchases.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A resident in the 1700 block of Northfield Square reported around 2 a.m. on Nov. 21 that it sounded like someone was tapping on their patio door. Officers did not find anything suspicious.

BOMB THREAT FROM FAKE POLICE
A Latrobe Avenue resident reported around 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 that they had gotten a voicemail message that claimed to be from the Northfield Police. The message, which the resident described as clearly inauthentic, claimed there was the bomb in the area and the occupants of the home should leave immediately.

SIGN DAMAGE
Police are investigating a report that a street signs at the intersections of Winnetka Road and Meadowood Lane and Winnetka Road and Bristol Road were knocked off their post during the overnight hours of Nov. 23 to Nov. 24.

ARRESTS

Dean J. Devine, 39, of the 200 block of Route 6, Morris, was arrested around 12:22 p.m. on Nov. 23 and charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a revoked license following an investigation into a traffic crash at the intersection of Willow and Sunset Ridge road. After witnesses provided a description of the driver a car that fled the scene of a traffic crash, Devine was arrested in the 2300 block of Waukegan Road in Northbrook and found to have several outstanding arrest warrants.
