The following information comes from the Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka police departments as a record of police activity and incidents reported to the police. Criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.


GLENCOE

INCIDENTS

HOME BURGLARY
Someone broke into a home in the 900 block of Oak Drive prior to 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 and ransacked several rooms inside. The resident was not sure what may have been taken at the time of the initial report.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • An Elm Court resident reported around 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 13 that someone had used their identity to open an account with Sprint and purchase an iPhone.
  • A Bluff Street resident reported around 4 p.m. on Dec. 19 that someone had scammed them into providing their Medicare information.
  • A Madison Avenue resident reported around 3:45 p.m. on Dec. 23 that someone had gotten access to their American Airlines account and purchased tickets for 50,000 miles. Someone also unsuccessfully tried to take control of the residents account with Charles Schwab.

FORGERY
A Longmeadow Lane resident reported around 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 that someone had made an unauthorized withdrawal of $7,800 from their account.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone cut the electrical cords powering the Christmas displays of a home in the 100 block of Scott Avenue prior to 5 p.m. on Dec. 16.

BITCOIN SCAM
A Vernon Avenue resident reported receiving an email from a scammer threatening to publish explicit video of them if they did not send cryptocurrency to the scammer. There was no loss reported.

THEFT OF LOST OR UNATTENDED ITEM
A Madison Avenue resident reported on the evening of Dec. 17 that their $800 iPhone is missing after they left it in a car of a driver working for a ride-hailing company.

DONATIONS CANCELED
A resident in the 100 block of Wentworth Avenue reported on the morning of Dec. 20 that someone had come to their door and asked for donations. The resident reported that the solicitors admitted they did not have a permit but the resident gave them each a check for $25. After neighbors said they felt it was a scam, the resident canceled payment on the checks and contacted police.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Camisha A. Lawrence, 32, of the 2200 block of Rush Street, Lynwood, was arrested around 9 a.m. on Dec. 15 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop in the area of Sunset Lane and Vernon Avenue. She was also issued citations for improper overtaking on the left and prohibited lane change.

Yvette M. Broertjes, 50, of the 2100 block of North Kedzie Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 11:57 p.m. on Dec. 19 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the area of Sheridan Road and Scott Avenue. She was also issued citations for no insurance, unsafe tires and no rear license plate light.

A 34-year-old Oak Park woman was arrested around 8:15 p.m. on Dec. 19 and charged with driving with a revoked driver's license and expired registration following a traffic stop in the area of Green Bay Road and Scott Avenue.

Devin D. Cullens, 28, of the 700 block of West 107th Street, Chicago, and Martel C. Clay, 23, of the 2500 block of Brentwood Place in Madison, Wisconsin, were arrested around 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 21 in the 2000 block of Frontage Road. Cullens was charged with forgery, fake identification and narcotics possession. Clay was charged with aggravated assault to police, fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving and cannabis possession. Michael J. Carvell, 39, of the 2600 block of West 75th Street in Woodridge, was arrested around 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 23, also in the 2000 block of Frontage Road, and charged with identity theft. No further information about either incident was immediately available from police.

NORTHFIELD

INCIDENTS

DISPUTE
Officers were called to a dispute between two caregivers at a home in the 200 block of Regent Wood Road on the morning of Dec. 9.

THEFT
Someone stole an unspecified item from inside a mailbox in the 2200 block of Birchwood Lane prior to 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 10.

COUNTERFEIT CASH
Staff at the Walgreens, 1825 Willow Road, reported on the evening of Dec. 10 that a woman or girl had used counterfeit currency to make a purchase around 5:35 p.m.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 19-year-old Oak Lawn man was issued a local ordinance citations for damage to public property and possession of drug paraphernalia around 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 10 after his car crashed into a landscaped median in the area of Willow and Wagner roads.

A 34-year-old Lansing, Michigan, man was arrested around 11 a.m. on Dec. 13 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the area of Wagner Road and Bosworth Lane. Officers also issued him a failure to display registration citation.

A 46-year-old Highland Park man was arrested around 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 18 and charged with driving with as suspended license following a traffic stop in the 1700 block of Willow Road. He was also ticketed for speeding 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.

A 62-year-old Glencoe woman was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 20 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 700 block of West Frontage Road. She was also issued an expired registration citation.

An 18-year-old Northfield man was arrested around 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 22 and charged with driving without a license and leaving the scene of a property damage crash in connection with a crash in the 100 block of Waukegan Road. He was also issued citations for operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage, improper passing, failure to give information after an accident, failure to report an accident and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.


WILMETTE

INCIDENTS

FRAUD
Someone stole more than $28,000 by making 15 fraudulent electronic funds transfers from the Byline Bank account of Westmoreland Country Club between Nov. 13 and Nov. 26.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole several dollars in cash from inside a 2006 Toyota that was left unlocked between 6 p.m. Dec. 8 and 6 a.m. Dec. 9 in the 2300 block of Schiller Avenue.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 1100 block of Isabella Street reported that someone damaged their exterior Christmas lights at some point between Dec. 9 and Dec. 15.

THEFT OF UNATTENDED ITEM
Someone took about $50 from inside a purse that had been left in the bathroom at a Walgreens between 3:30 and 4 p.m. on Dec. 21.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Central Avenue resident reported that someone opened a Chase Bank account using their identity between Nov. 15 and Dec. 17.

PACKAGE THEFTS

  • Between 8:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Dec. 12, someone stole a package delivered to the front porch of a home in the 200 block of Hibbard Road.
  • Someone stole a package from home in the 900 block of Seneca Road on Dec. 21.

GIFT CARD SCAMS

  • A Sheridan Road resident reported on Dec. 13 that someone who appeared to be calling from the Wilmette Police Department using a fraudulent caller ID display had transferred them to a person purporting to represent the FBI. That person convinced the resident she was under investigation and risked arrest if she did not buy gift cards. The resident purchased a $500 gift card and provided the scammers with the number to use it before becoming suspicious.
  • A Brookside Drive resident reported on Dec. 17 that someone had phoned them purporting to be represent Apple technical support. The caller claimed the resident's computer had been hacked and demanded the access code numbers to gift cards in exchange for repairing it. The resident purchased $5,500 worth of gift cards and gave the codes to the scammer.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 32-year-old Mundelein man was arrested around 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 9 and charged with driving with a suspended license. Police reported he was also cited for an unspecified traffic violation.

A 25-year-old Chicago woman turned herself in around 11:45 a.m. on Dec. 18 to be processed on a Wilmette warrant stemming from a 2018 traffic case.

Eliane R. Landwehr, 53, of the 700 block of Lake Avenue, Wilmette, was arrested around 9 p.m. on Dec. 21 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after officers found she appeared to be drunk and had a breath alcohol concentration above the level limit for intoxication.


WINNETKA

INCIDENTS

FORGERY
A village employee discovered on Dec. 10 that an unidentified person had used fraudulent checks to make $470 in payments between Oct. 25 and Dec. 5.

THEFT
Someone stole a ring and various other items of unknown value from inside a home in the 500 block of Prospect Avenue sometime between Jan. 1, 2018, and Dec. 8, police were told on Dec. 12.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the Walgreens, 925 Green Bay Road, reported an unidentified thief stole more than $434 worth of items from the store around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 15.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
The manager of a property in the 900 block of Green Bay Road reported around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 17 that someone had done more than $5,000 worth of damage to an apartment unit in the building between Oct. 24 and Dec. 16.

PUBLIC INDECENCY
An unidentified person exposed himself to someone in the 1000 block of Gage Street around 5:45 a.m. on Dec. 19. He left the area before officers arrived.

BURGLARIES

  • An employee of the BP gas station at 1025 Tower Road reported that someone broke the glass door, causing $800 in damage, and stole $300 in cash from the register around 2:45 a.m. on Dec. 12.
  • Someone broke into a business in the 100 block of Green Bay Road between 3 and 3:15 a.m. on Dec. 22, causing more than $3,000 in damage. It was not known if anything was stolen at the time of the initial police report.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • An Ash Street resident reported on the morning of Dec. 9 that someone had used their identity to make more than $1,800 in unauthorized purchases using their credit card.
  • A Hill Road resident reported around 9 p.m. on Dec. 20 that someone used their identity to open several unauthorized credit card accounts since Aug. 9 for an unknown loss.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 24-year-old Waukegan woman was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 14 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 800 block of Sheridan Road. She was also issued a citation for disobeying a stop sign.

A 27-year-old Lafayette, Indiana, man was arrested around 4:45 a.m. on Dec. 14 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue. He was also issued a failure to signal citation.

Dianne E. Brogan, 58, of the 200 block of 15th Street, Wilmette, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 15 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the first block of Green Bay Road. She was also issued citation for disobeying a traffic control device and a stop sign.

Zygmunt C. Okninski, 54, of the 100 block of Eddy Lane, Northfield, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 15 at the Winnetka Police Department and charged with domestic battery in connection with a report of an earlier battery.

Matthew T. Williams, 31, of the 900 block of Green Bay Road, Winnetka, was arrested at his home around 9 a.m. on Dec. 16 and charged with continuing financial crimes enterprise, unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and two counts of forgery. His arrest stemmed from the investigation into who had passed $470 in fraudulent checks to the village since October.

Dylan Patrick Wirth, 27, of the 2800 block of West Addison Street, Chicago, was arrested around 9 p.m. on Dec. 21 in the 500 block of Glendale Avenue and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and one count of possession of adult-use cannabis in a motor vehicle. He was also issued a citation for no rear license plate light and processed on an out-of-state arrest warrant discovered after he was taken into custody.
