Police Seek Public's Help In Armed Home Invasion Investigation

Winnetka police are asking for security camera footage that could help them identify five masked men suspected of armed home invasion.

WINNETKA, IL — The Winnetka Police Department is still investigating an armed home invasion that happened on March 8, and is looking for the public's help.

Police Chief Brian O'Connell said detectives are looking for footage from security cameras in the neighborhood between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. The group of men drove a black Acura RDX SUV and were headed to a home in the 700 block of Rosewood Avenue.

Authorities believe neighbors on nearby streets with security cameras may have captured the car in the area. If you believe you have evidence of this incident, call 847-501-6034 or forward the information to police@winnetka.org.

"I would like to emphasize that incidents like these present a very real danger: these offenders are often immediately willing to escalate criminal acts to violent crimes, frequently with the use of a weapon. We have seen this not only in our community but in other neighboring communities where similar incidents have occurred," O'Connell said.

The incident occurred at about 5:27 p.m. on March 8 when a man approached the front door of a Winnetka home with a takeout bag, posing as a delivery driver. When the resident opened their door, the man and four other masked men pushed inside, according to police.

Once inside, the group of men held the resident at gunpoint and demanded specific items from the home, according to police.

Ultimately, the resident was able to escape their home and call the police. They were not injured in the incident, police said.

The Winnetka Police Department believes that there are five male suspects, who were described as:

  • A Black man wearing a Nike face gaiter, dark clothing, purple surgical gloves and gray flip-flops with white socks who also carried a brown takeout bag from Outback Steakhouse.
  • A Black man wearing a black sweatshirt and gray sweatpants and light-colored gym shoes.
  • A Black man with dreadlocks who was wearing a red zip-up hoodie, ripped jeans and black and white gym shoes.
  • A man wearing a mask who wore a black sweatshirt with the hood up, jeans and white shoes.
  • A man wearing a light-colored jacket, dark pants, dark shoes and purple surgical gloves.

All the suspects were wearing masks, police said.
