Glencoe, Winnetka and Northfield Police Blotters: Oct. 12 - Oct. 18

WINNETKA, IL — The following information comes from official reports compiled by the police departments of Glencoe, Northfield and Winnetka as a record of police activity and of those arrested. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indicator of guilt and criminal charges represent merely accusations by the state, which are often dropped or reduced. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

CAR BURGLARY
On the morning of Oct. 11, a homeowner on the 1000 block of Elm Ridge Drive reported that someone had entered an unlocked 2012 Chevrolet Traverse but nothing was reported missing.

IDENTITY THEFT
On Oct. 13 at 4:35 p.m., a resident in the 100 block of Harbor Street reported that someone unsuccessfully tried to open a credit card card using their personal information.
RETAIL THEFT
On Oct. 17 at 10:19 a.m., someone went into the Grand Food Store in the 300 block of Hazel Avenue and stole several food items before running out of the store.
ARRESTS
A 21-year-old Chicago man was arrested Oct. 13 at 6:10 p.m. near the intersection of Strawberry Hill and Forestway drives. He was accused of driving without a valid license or insurance but with cannabis.
A 26-year-old Michigan City, Indiana man was arrested for driving on a suspended license and soliciting without a permit on Oct. 14 at 4:59 p.m. in the 1100 block of Elm Ridge Drive. Three Chicago men, a 24-year-old, a 27-year-old and a 28-year-old, were also issued citations for unpermitted soliciting in the same incident.
Raya Yagubova, 41, of the 1200 block of Mayfair Lane in Glencoe, was arrested Oct. 14 at 8:04 p.m. at his home and charged with domestic battery.
NORTHFIELD
INCIDENTS
IDENTITY THEFT
On Oct. 13 at 2:28 p.m., a resident in the 200 block of Sunset Ridge Road reported that someone had tried to cash a check using the resident's name at a Niles currency exchange the previous day. The currency exchange had not cashed the check, but the resident wanted to make sure to file a complaint for identity theft.
THEFT OF CAR PARTS
On Oct. 15 at 4:10 p.m., a resident in the 1700 block of Northfield Square reported that someone stole a catalytic converter off of a parked vehicle in between Oct. 12 and Oct. 15. The estimated loss was $500 and the incident remains under investigation.

On the morning of Oct. 9, A resident in the 1000 block of Elm Street reported that someone had taken a garage door opener worth $35 from an unlocked car that had been parked in the street during overnight hours the previous night.
On the afternoon of Oct. 9, a resident in the 1000 block of Elm Street reported that someone had rummaged through an unlocked vehicle parked behind a home during the previous night, although nothing was taken.
Also on the afternoon of Oct. 9, another resident in the 1000 block of Elm Street reported that someone had rummaged through an unlocked car parked behind a home. There was no reported loss.
THEFT
On Oct. 10 at 4:49 p.m., a resident of the 1200 block of Scott Avenue reported that between 2:56 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Oct. 6, someone had taken a package containing $167.97 worth of Halloween costumes that had been delivered to the home.
VEHICLE THEFT
Someone stole an unlocked vehicle worth more than $10,000 between 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 and 7 a.m. on Oct. 11 after taking a valet key from an unlocked vehicle that had been parked on a driveway in the 1100 block of Tower Road, police were told.
THEFT
On Oct. 12, someone stole an iPhone, worth $860, that had been left in the gym locker room at New Trier High School shortly before 10:15 a.m., police were told.
IDENTITY THEFT
Someone used the personal identifiers of a person in the 300 block of Winnetka Avenue to open up Verizon Wireless account between Sept. 20 and Oct. 7. There was no immediate reported loss.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of the 1000 block of Oak Street reported that someone used their personal identifiers to make changes to an existing credit card card, attempting to open up several new store credit card accounts. There was no immediate reported loss.
ARRESTS
Hyun H. Shin, 44, of the 4600 block of North Lowell Avenue in Chicago, was arrested Oct. 9 at 4:36 p.m. in the 300 block of Sheridan Road and charged with aggravated battery after police investigated a report of a disturbance in the area.

Marcelyn Jean Alspach, 43, of the 3200 block of Thayer Street in Evanston, was arrested near the intersection of Glen Oak Drive and Sheridan Road on Oct. 12 at 11:49 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. She was also cited for improper lane usage.
A 60-year-old Chicago man was arrested in the 100 block of Green Bay Road on Oct. 13 at 2:23 p.m. and charged with driving with a suspended driver's license. He was also issued a citation for driving a vehicle with expired registration.
