Crisis Response Team On Hand After Downers Grove South Student's Death
District 99 sent a message to members of the community that a female student apparently took her own life.

A student has died after apparently taking her own life, District 99 said in an e-mail Tuesday.
The name of the female student has not been released, and the family has chosen to make the funeral private, the email said.
All students were notified of the death during their second-period classes Tuesday morning. Members of the Crisis Response Team at Downers Grove South High School are available to meet with students.

"We want to take this opportunity to remind our community that suicide is a very complicated act," Principal Stephan Bild said in the e-mail. "It is usually caused by a mental health concern such as depression, which can prevent a person from thinking clearly about his or her problems and how to solve them. Sometimes these mental health concerns, called disorders, are not identified or noticed; other times, a person with a disorder will show obvious symptoms or signs."
If a student needs assistance or wants to see a grief counselor, South High School's Counseling Office can be reached at 630-795-8570.
