Nora Wallar was last seen leaving her parents home around 10 a.m. Sunday. As of Monday afternoon, her family and police still had not located her.

Wallar is a white female, 5-feet-9-inches tall, 250 pounds, with shoulder length brown hair and hazel eyes. She was wearing black yoga pants, a burgundy sweater and purple framed glasses. She was carrying a black purse.

She has a form of autism that leaves her unable to care for herself. Although she appears highly functioning at first contact, she has diminished mental capacity. She is usually under supervision but had managed to wander away.

“Nora can speak, but her mental capacity is that of a 7-year-old’s, according to discussions with her family,” Deputy Chief Bill Holmer of the Glen Ellyn Police Department said. “She appears to be normally functioning. She blends in and doesn’t stand out. She’s not attracting attention. She’s friendly and will approach people.”

Police and the young woman’s family have been checking hospitals, parks, businesses and area hotels -- anywhere where Wallar may have gone. Wallar is not believed to be carrying any money.

“Our fear is that Nora approached somebody and hopped in a car. We simply don’t know,” Holmer said. “She could have hopped on a train. She doesn’t have a lot of inhibitions. She is not able to filter who or who not to talk too.”

Anyone who may have seen Nora or knows of her whereabouts is asked to contact the Glen Ellyn Police department at 630-469-1187 or call 911.
