Woman Charged With Making Up Home Intruder Story
Downers Grove police said woman locked herself in bathroom and then filed phony police report saying a man was in her apartment.

Police SWAT team members swarmed an apartment building after a woman called 911 to falsely report that a man had broken into her home, Downers Grove police said.
Kelcie M. Mortell, 20, was charged with disorderly conduct for filing a false police report.

Police responded to the 2800 block of Grabriella Street around 2:38 p.m. Dec. 10. According to police, Mortell said she locked herself in her bathroom after she heard a man trying to pry open her front door.
Mortell allegedly told police that the man was now inside her apartment. Downers Grove Police established a perimeter around the building and called in the SWAT team. Officers from the SWAT team conducted a thorough search of Mortell’s apartment building but did not locate the man.

During a following up interview the next day, police said that Mortell admitted that she made up the story.
The DuPage County State’s Attorney approved a felony disorderly conduct charge. Bail was set at $2,000 and Mortell was able to post the 10-percent required amount.
Mortell is due back in court on Dec. 22.
