Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes Into Indiana State Trooper On I-465 Eastbound

Indiana State Trooper Scott Probasco was inside police car when crash took place at mm 1.5 and was transported to hospital.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — An alleged drunk driver crashed into an Indiana State Police Car Thursday morning on I-465 eastbound, while a State Trooper was inside the vehicle, ISP reports. The crash took place around 2:30 a.m. near East Street on the south side when Trooper Scott Probasco was responding to reports of metal debris at the 1.5 mile marker roadway. Probasco was inside the car with his emergency lights on, blocking two lanes for clean up when a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Rachel Dawe of Indianapolis struck the car's passenger side.

Police officials said Probasco was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has been released. Dawe was transported to IU Methodist Hospital where she remains with injuries.

Investigating officers reportedly believe Dawe was intoxicated during the crash, and police officials will work with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office to determine possible charges. ISP officials are taking to Twitter in an effort to remind drivers to be smart, careful and to think of others on the road.

Sergeant Tony Slocum, ISP Public Information Officer for the Peru District, tweeted: "Another alleged selfish act of driving intoxicated and endangering all motorists. Cabs, busses, Uber, Lyft will get u home. #Don'tBSelfish."

It was a response to a tweet posted by Sergeant John Perrine, ISP Public Information Officer in Central Indiana, showing a post-crash photo of the vehicle Probasco was in.
