Man Shot, Killed After Kicking In Door Of Wrong Address

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials report a man was shot and killed Thursday by a resident after he kicked in the front door of the wrong residence, and forced his way inside. IMPD said officers responded to a report of a person shot just before 12 a.m. Thursday in the 5700 block of Wiebeck Court. That's where IMPD reports officers found a 34-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, lying on a bedroom floor.
Police said the apartment occupants were unharmed and fled outside to call police.
According to IMPD, medical personnel pronounced the male deceased upon arriving at the scene.

IMPD said preliminary investigators believe the man forcibly kicked his way into an apartment that he mistakenly thought was the residence of his children's mother. Police said the man was told by residents inside that he had the wrong address, but he demanded entry.

IMPD reports the man returned moments later, forcing his way inside by allegedly kicking in the front door into the unit where two small children, an adult female and adult male were scared by this action. The man reportedly charged toward the adult male resident, who fired a gun, hitting the man several times.

Police said the adult male resident called police and provided officers with the gun upon their arrival. Police add detectives will follow-up as needed with both adults who were inside the apartment
