2 Finalists Announced For Ames City Assessor
The Ames City Assessor is responsible for assigning values to all taxable property within Ames' city limits.

Two finalists have been selected to interview for the position of Ames City Assessor. Former City Assessor Greg Lynch recently retired after more than 15 years of service. Separate, back-to-back public presentations via Zoom have been scheduled for the public to meet the finalists and ask questions on Wednesday, April 28.

The Ames City Assessor is responsible for assigning values to all taxable property within Ames’ city limits. An ongoing process of gathering and reviewing information, reviewing and listing new construction, and investigating sales of real estate is used to provide accurate and current values.
The first public presentation will begin at 4:30 p.m. for candidate Brenda Nelson. The second public presentation will begin at 5:15 p.m. for candidate Paul Overton. The candidates will provide a brief introductory presentation and then take questions from the audience.

Paul Overton serves as the Assessor for Boone County, Iowa, a position he has held since 2012. Prior to that, he was the Chief Deputy Assessor for the Ames City Assessor from 1999 to 2012, and the Assessor for Wayne County, Iowa, from 1988 to 1999.
Brenda Nelson serves as the Assessor for Cass County, Iowa, a position she has held since 2005. Prior to that, she was an appraiser for Cass County from 1997 until being named the Cass County Assessor.
