The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will stock Ada Hayden Heritage Park Lake with approximately 2,000 rainbow trout at noon on Friday, Nov. 15. The trout stocking will take place near the boat ramp on the north side of the lake. Prior to releasing the fish, Iowa DNR staff will install a net in the water below the bridge to prohibit trout from migrating to the south lake. The trout will range in length from 10 to 12 inches.

The stocking of the lake is part of the Urban Lakes Trout Program, an effort to introduce trout fishing to more anglers across the state. This is the seventh year the Iowa DNR has used this program to release trout into Ada Hayden Heritage Park Lake. Urban trout stockings typically occur between October and early April. Cool weather stockings provide easy access trout fishing opportunities in areas that cannot support trout during summer months.

For those interested in fishing for trout at Ada Hayden Heritage Park, the State of Iowa requires a valid fishing license, as well as a trout stamp for individuals over the age of 16. More information regarding State of Iowa fishing regulations is available at www.iowadnr.gov
