Ames Fire Responds To An Apartment Fire

At approximately 11:15 p.m., Ames firefighters arrived on scene and found a small fire in a first-floor apartment living room.

Ames firefighters responded Monday to an automatic alarm at 2824 West St. At approximately 11:15 p.m., Ames firefighters arrived on scene and found a small fire in a first-floor apartment living room.

Minimal fire suppression by fire crew was needed as the automatic sprinkler system had activated and extinguished the fire except for a few hot spots. Fire damage was minimal due the early activation of the automated sprinkler system.

There were no injuries, and the actual cause of the fire is undetermined currently. Damage is estimated to be approximately $1,000.

The Ames Fire Department reminds all residents to check smoke detectors monthly. This will ensure they are operating correctly and will provide early warning in case of a fire. Sprinkler systems save lives and property as the fire is held in check until firefighters arrive.
