Ames Veterans Day Video To Be Released On Wednesday

Ames Patriotic Council’s annual Veterans Day program will be presented in a video format this year. The program will premiere at 11 a.m. on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11. The program’s featured speaker will be Col. Michael A. Wunn of the Iowa Army National Guard. Col. Wunn currently serves as a public affairs officer for the Iowa Guard. Ames Patriotic Council President and Ames City Council member Tim Gartin will introduce the program, with welcomes from the City and from American Legion Post No. 37 by Post Commander Jennifer Monserud. Roger Elliott will give the invocation. The program will include a special appearance by the Ames High School Concert Chorale under the direction of Peggy Dieter and Sonia Johnson singing the National Anthem.

As a reminder, most City of Ames departments and divisions will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in recognition of Veterans Day. The exceptions include:
- The Community Center, located in City Hall, 515 Clark Ave., will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Ames/ISU Ice Arena will be open for public skating from 8 to 9:30 p.m. To sign up for Public Skate, visit www.amesparkrec.org
- Municipal Pool will be open for its regular Wednesday schedule of adult lap swim, shallow water fitness, and swim lessons. For specific hours and to register, visit www.amesparkrec.org
- CyRide buses will run a regular weekday schedule. For more information about bus schedules, visit www.cyride.com
- The Ames Public Library lobby, 515 Douglas Ave., will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for limited “grab and go” services. For more information, visit www.amespubliclibrary.org
- Administrative offices at the Resource Recovery Plant, 110 Center Ave., will be closed, but the tipping floor will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Story County Clerk of Court Office and the District Associate Court, located in Ames City Hall, also will be closed.
