Cooling Centers Open At Community Center And Ames Public Library

Chairs will be available for people to sit on while cooling off. Wifi is available.

The City of Ames will be opening two Cooling Centers for residents to cool off if they are still without power. Masks and social distancing are required. The centers’ locations and open hours are as follows:

Community Center, 515 Clark Ave. Please enter through the gymnasium in the southwest corner of City Hall. Open hours:

  • Thursday, August 13: Noon – 7 p.m.
  • Friday, August 14: 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 15: 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, August 16: 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Chairs will be available for people to sit on while cooling off. Wifi is available. Outlets are available for charging devices, but people must bring their own cords.

Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave.

  • Thursday, August 13: Noon – 9 p.m.
  • Friday, August 14: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 15: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, August 16: 1 – 5 p.m.

Socially distanced computers/printing/copying services in 30-minute time slots will be available in the Library Auditorium. Socially distanced chairs and a phone charging area is available in the lobby under the stairs area (these will be available in 30-minute time slots). Outlets are available for charging devices, but people must bring their own cords. Wifi is available.
