City of Ames staff and parking study consultant, Walker Consultants, held a kick-off meeting in April to identify issues with parking in Downtown Ames. During the meeting, more than 20 parking-related concerns were identified including employee and customer parking needs, parking enforcement practices, parking rate escalations and rate changes, parking system operational requirements, walking distance tolerances, seasonality factors, biking storage requirements, and planning for future development parking needs.
In addition to stakeholder input, Walker Consultants has collected parking inventory and occupancy data to quantify the level of parking activity downtown and observe existing conditions. Walker Consultants also performed a parking turnover and duration survey to understand how parking users are interacting with posted rules and regulations, and quantifying the efficacy of the parking enforcement program. The study looked at a 16-block area in Downtown Ames.
Those who would prefer to leave feedback via phone can call the Public Works Office at 515.239.5160.Return to full list >>
