Hickory Grove Fishing Tournament

Story County Conservation is hosting a two-person team fishing tournament Sept. 24 at Hickory Grove Park near Colo.  

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at the concession stand; the tournament is from 7 to 11 a.m.  The fee is $35 per team if you pre-register with payment by 4:30 p.m., Sept. 21. The fee the day of the tournament is $45 per team. Individuals and youth are welcome to fish, however, the registration fee is the same.

Grab a friend and test your skills against other anglers on the waters of Hickory Grove Lake!  Cash prizes of $100 will be awarded for each of the longest fish per species:  largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish.  Fish size is determined by length, and the official measurement must be taken by Story County Conservation staff or designated volunteers.  Participants are asked to bring live wells or buckets and to have fish measured as soon as possible to reduce stress on fish.  All entries are the property of the tournament officials.  

Lunch follows the tournament and is included with the registration fee.  Canoes may be rented on a first-come, first-served basis for a $5 fee during the tournament and may be reserved upon pre-registration.  All county and state park regulations apply; participants 16 and old must possess a valid fishing license.
