Ames Parks and Recreation Department announced today it is postponing the opening of Homewood Golf Course, a public nine-hole course located at 20th Street and Duff Avenue. The new opening day is anticipated to be 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15. The decision to delay the opening was made after considering recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), World Health Organization (WHO), and Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds regarding best practices in containing the COVID-19 virus.

The City of Ames has based its facility opening and closing decisions on protecting the health and safety of its customers and City staff. “In delaying the opening of Homewood, we have more time to seek guidance from public health agencies and consider additional steps to support a healthier environment for golfing,” said Parks and Recreation Director Keith Abraham.
The Department continues to monitor local, state, and federal guidelines for public facilities. Part of opening the course on Wednesday, April 15, would include additional rules and expectations of safe, social distancing to protect golfers and staff. These new policies will be posted on the Department’s homepage and at the golf course.
