Live Fire Training Planned At Home wood Clubhouse In Ames

Ames Fire Department crews will be conducting live fire training at Home wood Golf Course on either Friday, Aug. 21, or Monday, Aug. 24.

Ames Fire Department crews will be conducting live fire training at Home wood Golf Course on either Friday, Aug. 21, or Monday, Aug. 24, pending favorable wind and weather conditions. The training will occur at the clubhouse, which has been closed since Aug. 7 in preparation of its demolition. Construction of a new clubhouse will begin in September.

The golf course will be closed during the training event. Crews will be conducting different fire attack evolution and will allow the structure to completely free burn upon completion of the evolutions.

Firefighters and Parks Department staff will be on scene during all portions of the live fire training. All live fire training will be conducted in accordance with State of Iowa Department of Natural Resources and National Fire Protection Association Standards.

Impacts to the surrounding area are predicted to be very minimal based on the isolated location of the clubhouse. “The public may see smoke in the area or experience rusty water in the immediate neighborhood, but every effort will be made to reduce these inconveniences,” said Fire Training Officer A.J. Plach. The public is reminded that this is a training event and not an actual emergency.
