It is my sincerest hope that the guilty verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin brings some level of comfort to the family and friends of George Floyd, our community, and nation.

We must learn from our collective past, so that we as a community and country can move forward with determination to create a better future. Ames citizens have shown the ability to challenge injustice, recognize and confront inequities, and strive to build a community where everyone is welcome. We are committed to continuing that thoughtful, deliberate journey.
