Storm Tree Debris Pick Up Underway In Ames

The site will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday, through Aug. 23.

Curbside pickup of storm debris is underway. Due to the vast amount of tree damage throughout the entire city, this pickup will take some time, but will continue until all the debris has been picked up. To assist in the pickup, property owners are requested to use the following guidelines:

  • Place tree debris in the parking area between the curb and sidewalk. If there is more debris than will fit in the parking are, place overflow in the front yard, but not on the sidewalk. If you do not have a sidewalk, place the debris next to the curb.
  • Debris should be cut in lengths of no more than 8 feet long. There is no limit on the diameter of branches and tree trunks.
  • Debris must not be placed next to fire hydrants, electric transformers, etc.

Assistance in moving debris to the curb is available for the elderly and disabled. Please call 515.239.5670 for assistance.

Tree debris may be dropped at the free site at 308 East Ave, the City’s former coal yard. The site will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday, through Aug. 23. Commercial tree services and haulers may not use this site and must haul off and dispose of debris at their own expense. The drop-off site is for Ames property owners only to dispose of storm tree debris.
